SITE CIRCULATION

The exercise involved the design of an Ayurveda Wellness centre in Gangtok. The need of designing an Ayurveda Centre in the North-East was to educate, promote and encourage a lifestyle of total health, physical,mental and spiritual for each individual.

OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the project was to, 1) To provide an egotranscending practice 2) To provide facility of isolation from the urban environment 3) To provide the elusive sense of relaxation and inward awareness.

NEED: In the midst of our modern world characterized by daily stress, fatigue, and pollution provide the rejuvenation and to help people maintain the equilibrium between the nature and body designing an ayurveda yoga retreat is one of the major factor.

ADMIN BLOCK : Inspired by the style and form of a ‘Mandala’ which in Buddhist architecture represents an energy field. Mandala is a shape which is regarded as a place separated or protected or a place of nirvana and peace.

The site circulation is based on the principles of vastu.

In traditional buddhist buildings the framing members are richly decorated with carved and painted motifs,giving them A special status within the iconography of tibetan architecture.

AYURVEDA WELLNESS CENTRE STAFF HOUSING: The staff housing was for the doctors and all working staffs in the wellness centre. In order to create a massing effect in the elevation of the staff housing the two different blocks had two and three storeys ( Type 1 & Type 2) respectively. Since the housing was not for the permanent use of the staffs so facility of 2 bhk was provided for all the flats. Open terrace on the topmost floors for both the blocks.

DHANBARI RAIN SHELTER AND LOG HUTS

This project includes development of Tourism Infrastructure at Ronkan Fall, Sripong View Point, Leesong Ney Monastery, Namrang Dunga, Dhanbari Doodh Pokhari & Maha Bhir. This complex now includes a Temple, Rain Shelter and Log Huts for the Pandits . The site is now an important tourist destination.

MELLI INTERPRETATION CENTRE

This project is under the eco-tourism forest environment and wildlife management department, Govt. of Sikkim. The interpretation centre is located in Melli, a small town on the West Bengal- Sikkim border near the River Teesta. Along with the visitor’s centre or eco-museums the interpretation centre here even consists of a guest house for the visitor’s.
