And there are others who know him best as an educator working on teacher training at Harvard’s Graduate School of education, a coach for the Malden Neighborhood Basketball League and a dad. But these days, LouisJacques would like to be known as the founder of Malden Rising Leaders, a nonprofit organization focused on helping the city’s young people succeed in whatever path in life they choose to follow. “We are all about youth, youth development and youth leadership,” explained Louis-Jacques. “We want to develop the next generation of leaders to engage in their community.” Officially launched last May, Malden Rising Leaders runs on the energy and commitment of its board of directors, four Malden High School alums who are committed to making sure Malden teens have the resources and support they need to realize their goals and potential. “Whether they go to a four-year college, a two-year college, a job or the military, we want to

help get them ready for their next stage in life,” said LouisJacques. In some cases, that means offering teens help with some of the skills often overlooked in high school, such as resume-building or developing financial literacy. In other instances, it means mentoring teens as they make the transition from the safe haven of Malden High to the unknown and explored opportunities and challenges beyond senior year. “We see kids who say, ‘Now that I’ve graduated, I really don’t know what the next step is,’” said Members of Malden Rising leaders celebrate the end of the school day at Malden High.
