Investigation continues into shooting death of Malden teen By Barbara Taormina olice continue to investigate a shooting in a Somerville home that led to the death of a Malden teen. As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made in the shooting death of Tenzin Kunkhyen, 16, a student at Malden High School. On Tuesday afternoon around 5 p.m., police responded to a home on Farragut Street in Somerville and found Kunkhyen suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge where he was pronounced dead. “On behalf of the City of Malden and the Malden Public Schools, we are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of one of our students. What makes this particularly painful was that he was just a teenager,” said Mayor Gary Christenson and School Superintendent John Oteri is a joint statement. Grief counselors were available for students returning to Malden High for the start of a new school year. According to a statement released by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, which is investigating the shooting with the Somerville Police and the Mas-

Meanwhile, friends and acquaintances are remembering Kunkhyen as a friendly and outgoing teen who had time for everyone. Some have left posts on a Facebook memorial page expressing their sadness, their support for Kunkhyen’s family and their shock that someone their own age was shot and killed in a world that they call “crazy.”
