We love to hear from you—so please send us your stories, comments, opinions, ideas, reviews and resources!

THE LAKE COUNTY HAVEN IN LIBERTYVILLE: Much appreciation goes out to our friends at Make It Better, who have partnered with us in so many ways to help further our mission in helping the homeless women and children in our community. From donating winter coats to spotlighting our fundraising events, Make It Better has been a true partner to the Haven.

I just received my lastest issue and was surprised. You have listed restaurants in Chicago and Lincolnwood, but nothing in Glencoe and Wilmette? On the North Shore. Frank and Betsie’s Restaurant in Glencoe is available for private parties on Sundays and semi-private during the week and Convito Italiano in Wilmette has multiple rooms. Why would I go to Chicago or Lincolnwood off the North Shore when there are wonderful local restaurants like these to give my business to? List the others if you want, but please list locally first. Sincerely,

EDITOR IN CHIEF LAURA HINE RESPONDS Dear Nancy, “Spiritual Journeys” was not envisioned as an encyclopedia of any and all religions found on the North Shore. If it was, I would have included my own church, Fourth Presbyterian Church of Wilmette. Instead, we focused on community and church leaders whose ideas about spirituality are new to many of us, and those whose faith is leading them to work for positive change in the world. I pass the Bahá’í House of Worship daily, but before I interviewed Valerie Dana and Ellen Price, I had no idea what they believed or about their commitment to peace. Eboo Patel works with youth of all religions to increase interfaith cooperation, and Bill Hybels, an evangelical Christian, brings together leaders of many faiths to learn how to pastor and inspire their congregations. It’s also worthwhile to note that “mainstream” Protestants were featured—author Pamay Bassey, a member of the non-denominational Christian church, Trinity Church of Christ; and Dr. Frank Yamada, president of McCormick Theological Seminary, who is an ordained Presbyterian Minister.

DINING EDITOR JULIE CHERNOFF RESPONDS Kay Kay, I certainly understand your comment about the October “Where to Party?” directory, however, it did feature many places on the North Shore: Deerfield, Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Northbrook, Northfield and Winnetka. I make an effort not to use the same restaurants repeatedly. It’s all about mixing it up! And many people on the North Shore have offices in the city, which is why a number of Chicago restaurants were included. Also, we consider Lincolnwood part of our North Shore footprint, so they were included as well. I wish I had room to include every wonderful restaurant in each issue, but space precludes it. Thanks for reading!
