Since we were hard at work on our annual “Better Gifts,” we asked our writers and our lead photographer (he’s responsible for the gorgeous gift guide pictures) to tell us about a favorite gift that they received. 1 | Kimberly Carroll Des Plaines Kimberly’s favorite gift was a United Club membership, which makes her many airport hours comfy and productive.
| Julie Chernoff Evanston Her favorite recent gift was an anniversary trip to Tuscany with Zingerman’s Food Tours. Cooking classes, great wine, unlimited Parmesan, pasta and prosciutto... what’s not to love?
| Christy Coughlin Wilmette Christy’s best gift was a Chocolate Lab puppy, Mabel, from her husband, confirming that he was a dog lover, too.
| Tate Gunnerson Chicago Tate still loves and displays the vintage Bakelite radio that his now late grandma gave him just because he admired it (even though she still loved it herself).
| Kelly Konrad Glenview Kelly’s best gift? Her firstborn, Zack. He was born on Christmas Day, after all. Seriously!
| Susan Noyes Wilmette Susan’s best present this year was the first CD with her favorite songs by her son Pat’s band, Sidecar Static (it’s now available at sidecarstatic. bandcamp.com, too).
| Nate Perry Evanston Nate couldn’t believe it when his family bought him a brand new camera. This was different from any other gift he had ever received because it was a sign of confidence and support in his photography.
| Evangeline Politis Chicago With tasty, petite sweets and a glorious, gigantic tree, Evangeline’s most recent favorite has been her mom’s treat of taking her to tea at the Peninsula. Nothing like a ladylike afternoon to kickoff the holiday season!
