DEAR FRIENDS, Thanks to you, we are happy to announce another record year for our chapter! We are pleased to present our 2014 Annual Report celebrating 32 years of granting wishes in our community – nearly 5,000 transformational experiences in our local chapter alone. Wishes can be pivotal events for children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. The impact a wish has on a family is powerful as you will see in the pages ahead. Join us as we reflect on 318 children and their families – as well as countless dedicated staff members, volunteers, contributors and supporters – who felt the triumph of being part of a Make-A-Wish® experience. Our vision is simple: We are dedicated to making every eligible child’s wish come true. Every Make-A-Wish employee, volunteer and supporter is committed to reaching this goal. This won’t happen in a day or in a year. In many ways, this is an aspirational goal to keep the entire organization laser-focused on what we do best: bring hope, strength and joy into the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions. In Fiscal Year 2014, our local chapter made some big decisions to commit to this vision. We moved our headquarters to a new facility in Irvine allowing us the space to grow and continue to evolve. And then we aimed bigger and aspired for more. Thanks to your generous support, we granted the most wishes ever in 2014. It has been, and will continue to be, an incredible journey. Amina, 6 leukemia I wish to be a chef

As we anticipate more remarkable success in the years to come, we look forward to the day when Make-A-Wish can report every eligible child is empowered by a wish experience. Thank you for supporting Make-A-Wish Orange County & the Inland Empire and helping us move ever closer to our vision. Best Wishes!

Stephanie McCormick President & CEO

Ferril Onyett Board Chair

Our Goal Our fundraising totals, corporate sponsorships and business practices support one purpose: to grant wishes that change lives. Volunteers and staff connect with wish kids … and walk with them through the depths of imagination. They discover their visions of perfection, and then set out to do even better. This year, 318 children in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties felt the rejuvenation of a Make-A-Wish® experience. We’re proud of another record year. But above us, there’s a summit – and it’s nearly 750. That’s how many children are diagnosed with a qualifying condition each year. We have a long way to climb. Everything we do today has just one purpose … to reach the point where every single medically eligible child in our territory receives a life-changing Make-A-Wish experience.

Finn, 5 hepatoblastoma I wish to be a cool kid

Nominee, 5 acute lymphocytic leukemia I wish to be a veterinarian

Our Supporters Make-A-Wish has been a different sort of charity from day one … a grassroots effort driven by people in our community who recognize that a wish experience can make life better for kids with life-threatening medical conditions. People know why it is important to help Make-A-Wish children through unimaginable challenges. They recognize the essential goodness of our mission. Together, they personify unequaled generosity and care. This year, a huge number of individual supporters stepped forward to do more. The ranks of Wish Society members grew to 135 individual donors. Wish Society℠ recognizes individuals whose cumulative, unrestricted, annual gifts to our chapter (cash; not in-kind gifts, services or sponsorships) equal $1,000 or more. Recognition at this level connects donors to the impact they make possible by supporting Make-A-Wish in its day-to-day operations, even though it might not fund a wish directly. In 2014 we welcomed more than 20 new corporate contributors to help us share the power of a wish®. What unites our donors at every level is belief – that a Make-A-Wish experience can do something that nothing else can … motivate, empower, inspire.

Our People People think Make-A-Wish has just one story – that wishes make an undeniable change in the lives of kids with life-threatening medical conditions. And yes, that’s true. But we also want the entire community to find a place for Make-A-Wish in their lives. Every supporter is essential to achieving our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child. We believe that when people understand what we do, they’ll take a step they’ll never forget … from “admirer” to “supporter.” The Make-A-Wish volunteer experience is incredibly unique- our mission is directly delivered and wishes are granted by volunteers. In this fiscal year, more than 600 volunteers supported our mission delivery, 285 of them as Wish Granters. We also increased the number of Spanish speaking volunteers by 45% in the last year- ensuring that we have the ability to communicate with the many Spanish speaking households where our wish kids reside. When you add in the support of 45 volunteer interns complementing our paid staff throughout the year, our volunteers contributed more than 11,000 hours in fiscal year 2014, accounting for more than $270,000 of donated time! Every Make-A-Wish child, contributor, sponsor, volunteer and employee is part of a hands-on charity that gets people involved like no other.

Our Wishes Every year in our history, we have made significant progress toward our vision to grant every eligible child’s wish. We continued to advance in 2014. This year, we served 318 children and families, yet another record milestone. We also assisted with granting the wishes of an additional 565 children who came from all over the world to have their wishes granted in Orange County and the Inland Empire. Approximately 96 percent of those wishes were to go to the DisneylandŽ Resort.
