InnoVision clarifies to you how and why we create our products and ensures you that all Hoya products and technologies are designed with the end user in mind. The human brain plays an essential role in the way we see. Our brains are capable to compensate for visual shortcomings, such as blur, to a certain degree. But, this ability is different with each individual. Although we are not always aware of the existence of blur, it will be registered by our brains. This can cause undefinable problems such as fatigue, headaches and eye strain. Our individual sensitivity level to blur therefore is of major influence on our total vision experience. Together with renowned scientific partners, such as the University of Montreal, Hoya researches these individual sensitivity levels to and acceptance of blur. We use the learnings of these studies to develop our lens designs and optimisation methods, minimising the likelihood of blur related complaints, letting the wearer experience a more relaxed and more comfortable vision.

Considering the modern, multitasking human-beings we have become today, and the highly demanding digital society we live in, our visual system has a lot to deal with on a daily basis. An accurate correction of the shortcomings in this complex visual system therefore is of major importance. It goes without saying that the more accurate the prescription and parameters you as an eye care professional provide us with, the more accurate we can correct your patient’s visual shortcomings. Your input in MyStyle iDentifier, visuReal and HoyaiLog already provides us with detailed prescription-, and fitting data for individual correction. In addition, Hoya researches how prescriptions can be optimised further. Knowledge exchange by optometrists and ophthalmologists, and practical training of eye care professionals in Hoya’s Faculty Education and Experience Centre, help to improve prescription- and parameter data collection in daily practice. Together with the Institute of Optometry, University of Applied Sciences, North-West Switzerland Hoya investigates new prescription optimisation methods that require a minimum of effort for the eye care professional.

Design Verification

The ultimate goal in optical design is to create a lens that ensures maximum visual performance for the wearer in all situations and circumstances. To reach this, Hoya believes it is essential to verify and optimise the design output by simulating the end result for the wearer. In this area, Hoya made some innovative steps by inventing unique and extraordinary design verification methods. These patented methods help us to ‘experience’ the actual visual performance of the lens from a binocular perspective in terms of clarity, distortion, vision while moving, off-axis vision, prismatic effects, and more, before it is produced! By simulating and verifying the lens design at an early stage in the development process, Hoya ensures that the final product will be well accepted by the wearer. Because Hoya’s lens designs are not only based on clinical studies but also evaluated by means of ‘real life’ simulations, Hoya tries to ascertain that wearer’s expectations are fulfilled to the max.

The way people act and behave determines their visual needs. Therefore, Hoya is convinced, that developing the perfect design starts with knowing the spectacle wearer. By monitoring their behaviour, and mapping their needs and demands we are able to create the best match of our products to the wearer. Data analysis from the MyStyle iDentifier and other Hoya systems, clinical trials executed by the University of Waterloo, wearing tests and consumer studies, all are employed to collect crucial information that we use to reach our ultimate goal; to create unlimited design solutions that match each individual’s needs, preferences and lifestyle. By keeping continuous dialogue with spectacle wearers, Hoya is not only able to create a perfect match of the final product to the wearer, it also gives us valuable input for the development of future designs, technologies and services.
