Fall 2011 Follow-Up Survey Results | 2

Summary & Recommendations Summary of Results More than half of respondents said they saw everything they wanted to and more, and another 30% saw everything they wanted to see. Of those that did not see everything they wanted, they most recently wanted to see: a residence hall room (presumably respondents from personal tours), classrooms/lecture halls, inside library, dining locations, and academic buildings/departments Tour length requires no adjustment – over 96% responded that the tour was the right length. After attending tours, about one fourth of respondents were just as likely to apply to MSU, while 71% were more likely to apply. Average Ambassador ratings were all above 9.3, with the highest ratings in personality and friendliness. Average residence hall ratings were about 8.3, but survey asked for overall ratings, not ratings specific to each residence hall. Thus, ratings for both Bohn Hall and The Heights are mixed, causing unclear results. Of those who attended an information session, less than 2% did not have their questions answered, and over 96% felt the presentation was the right length. All comments were generally positive, with a few requests for information packets/folders, and specifically addressing academic areas of study. Comparing ratings over time, satisfaction with the length of the tour stayed the same as Fall 2011, while less people responded that they saw everything they wanted to see. Respondents were less motivated to apply when compared to Fall 2011. Ambassador ratings improved slightly overall from Fall 2011 to Spring 2012. Respondent ratings for atmosphere and look of campus decreased slightly from Fall 2011 to Spring 2012.

Recommendations Based on Findings Ambassadors should be sure to show at least one classroom and lecture hall during tour, and personal tours should go into library or dining halls if guests want to see it Many requests for more information about academics Ambassadors could emphasize checking the website for the major or department for more information (possibly have departments post syllabus examples from classes on website) Offer visitors information packets before/after tours (explain that we don’t automatically hand them out to preserve paper, but they are free to take any information from lobby)

Any additional comments about the presentation? I thought the presentation was very informative. Prior to the presentation I didn’t know about the option where you can sync your application to the IRS. I was extremely impressed with the entire process. My son Alec will be attending. I wished to hear more about each major the university offers and the requirements for each. Overall I really enjoyed the presentation and has made Montclair state one of the top schools on my accepted list! It was amazing. The presentation definitely made me want to stay on campus at MSU. It wasn't a formal presentation. We got to the tour in advance and there was an admissions counselor available. I think it was Julie (or Erin), but she didn't give us a business card so I can't be positive. In any case, she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. No but disappointed with the lack of printed materials. No comments about campus security or underage drinking Prior to the information starting one of the student ambassadors was talking with us and some other families. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Sorry I don't remember his name. Provide more details on Internship programs and include % of Interns that secure full time employment after graduation. She was very informative and presented the material very well. The speaker was VERY informative and spoke VERY well. I was very impressed with her presentation. Sorry I can't remember her name!! Very informative! We came in 10 minutes late so therefore I missed the name of the presenter but he was excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed his candor and honesty. Told us he hadn't given a presentation in a long time and was nervous but I seriously doubt that! He was wonderful! We went on March 24 and the speaker spoke very well and clearly. Very informative.

Additional Comments Concerns & Suggestions As a recommendation for the tour, perhaps they could speak more about clubs-not sororities or things like that about other clubs at MSU. Bailey did a great job on the tour. She kept everyone together and was very friendly and easy to communicate with. I would like to just mention one thing that she could improve on...when she speaks at the front of the group, she should face the group so that everyone can hear what she is saying. She sometimes spoke forward and was in front of the group and missed her valuable knowledge and information. She was a great tour guide!! Bohn Hall was rundown - elevator out of order, drafty rooms. The Heights was beautiful. While on tour, several students passing by made negative comments about the school. Disappointed with how the University approaches the open house experience. Kean and Rowan are much better. The welcome at both are warmer, they offer FREE refreshments, printed materials and more. Great buildings you have but your staff could be friendlier. The admissions rep seemed like she didn't want to be there. Seemed thrown together compared to the other 12 schools we've visited in the past year. Felt that our tour guide focused more on the food offerings and plans and all the swipe card has to offer at this early stage. Believe at this stage it is more important to sell the state school experience and have students explain why they chose to attend MSU vs other schools and all the positive aspects. I chose the personal tour because I thought I would get to see more and learn more about the major I am interested in which is TV broadcasting. Our Ambassador was not familiar with that major so could not provide any additional information. Perhaps the ambassador should be matched more closely with the student going on the tour so that they can elaborate more on major that is of interest. I rated the academic offerings based on the website because there was no information session. I hope to make an appointment to get more information on my own particular planned studies. I was disappointed with the fact that no one on staff greeted us to the school. I felt the tour was too long and not enough emphasis on the academic buildings. I would have loved to have an informational meeting before the tour. I would've have liked to see a residence hall and even the student athlete center, but other than those two things, I saw everything I would like to. It would be helpful to have an admissions advisor speak to the group regarding majors, GPA, SAT scores, student life, etc. This was done at other colleges we have seen. It would have been a better information session and tour if there was more focus on academic offerings and courses. It would have been nice to have a general information meeting before the tour. Our tour guide was very helpful & friendly. We would have liked to have more information on the College of the Arts, since our daughter is interested in a BFA. We tried to set something up by calling the College of the Arts before our tour but they said all the information was on the web site. One of the areas that she is interested in Is Illustration and we didn't know that those classes were located in Finley Hall instead of Cacia until after we got home. So we are disappointed that we didn't get a chance to see them. Majors of interest include occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical therapy and the school does not offer these majors. My daughter was disappointed that the tour did not include viewing classrooms in any academic buildings. Although it was great to see two dorms, it would have been better to spend time inside the academic buildings, as opposed to standing outside the building having the ambassador describe the classrooms. (no fault of our ambassador, Mark R. though -- he was wonderful!) nice tour, would like to have more detailed information on majors of interest and although clearly stated in the web we would not see a room, to have seen a dorm room would have been good Our tour guide was great, she was a commuter student and it would have been helpful if she knew a little more about residence life. Some of the places we stopped at were not very ideal for the tour. Students were coming in and out of doors, weaving through our group, and talking very loud. I think the group leader could have chosen quieter spots. Also, I was disappointed that we did not get to enter many of the places we visited. We stood outside of many of the buildings and halls and learned about what happens, but we didn't really go inside. My mother didn't know where any of the classrooms were except for the one lecture hall we sat in; all we saw were the recreational facilities, which are important, but I'd have liked to have seen what the educational life of the school will be like. The lack of security around the campus is alarming. that was my main turn off. The tour felt rushed

Fall 2011 Follow-Up Survey Results | 14

The tour guide (Nina Baratti) was very friendly and helpful. She is a freshman, so her knowledge of the University is probably increasing over time. But, she mistakenly told us that freshmen could have a car on campus if they had a need (e.g., internship) or if their home was a long distance from the university. After the tour, an admission director told us that freshman and sophomores are not allowed to have cars on campus - no exceptions. A student must have a minimum of 60 credits before being allowed to have a car on campus. The car issue is one that is important to incoming students ... so the tour guides should know how to respond to questions about cars on campus. The tour guide was nice but other than that it was the worst tour that I have been on in the last 2 years! The tour guide was not knowledgeable about the university and her command of the english language was poor! I was looking forward to the tour so that I would have a feel for the university and know that I wanted to proceed to the information event in October 2012. At this point I am not sure that I will pursue Montclair State University. This is actually our second tour. The tour was very informative however we did not see a classroom empty or in progress either time. Also other universities hand out a folder of information to refer to and we didn't receive any. It's good to have for reference otherwise I have to keep looking on MSU website for information. Tours should be coupled with information on the academic experiences and opportunities. Neither of the Ambassadors were knowledgeable about the Science programs / majors and thus we were left with an impression that Montclair U 1) might have a very serious deficit in the Sciences and in pre-professional healthcare preparation and 2) was a great school for those who wanted to be artists or teachers. We absolutely did not like the freshman hall. as we approached the building with our tour group, the second floor window was smashed and glass was falling all over the front of the building. security did not respond. everyone went about their business as if this was routine. when we left the building, the area remained the same. this was a very dangerous situation. the dorm rooms were old. the elevator had an out of service sign on it, yet it was accepting passengers. the elevator was jumping and stopping short as it stopped on floors. on the 13th floor common room, the televisions was missing and cables hanging as it may have been stolen. the common room looked unkept and dated. the water fountain on the floor had all the covers removed, it was rusted out and appeared totally non-functional. the corridors and rooms appeared very old and I did not feel safe in this buildings. the freshman dorms appeared like the land that Montclair forgot. although our ambassador was great, and we saw a lot of promise in the campus life, I would not send my daughter as a freshman to this university. I appeared that the other half dozen parents felt the same. We were so looking forward to the tour of the university however, we were disappointed in how dirty it was and worn out. There were cigarette butts everywhere and even witnessing adults smoking and throwing their butts on the ground. The campus also doesn't appear to be too green. Not even one visible recycle bin. Another big thing is I didn't see any bike rakes to encourage biking around campus. I can't speak for the teachers because we didn't meet anyone but my overall impression was discouraging. We will want to attend a specific info session with the business department (in the fall, I think) so we can talk with the department staff about the business program. We didn't get to see inside that building. We only saw the inside of two departments, which were not of interest to us. Also, we would have liked to see inside the library, and perhaps inside of other cafeteria/eateries on campus. We realize that we had the option to see inside these places after the tour, but after being there for 3 hours, we were tired. Perhaps another visit. Would like to have a follow-up to see more of my area of study - broadcasting Would like to have seen the different dorms available and will check the web site for pictures. Also wondering if Montclair was going to have a accepted students day.

General Praise A WOUNDERFUL TOUR GUIDE AND VERY INFORMAL Accepted into the Athletic Training program for the Fall Semester. Very impressed with the program after meeting with Dr. Middlemas. I wasn't too impressed with the tour. We walked around on our own afterwards It was early and both the tour guide and group weren't very enthusiastic. Ali went out of her way to accommodate us during spring break. We really appreciate it! all good... tour person was great Already accepted and plan on attending. Tour just confirmed it. Already accepted! Already Applied Already received acceptance letter, and scholarship offer. Took the tour to help decide between Montclair and other school. Brian was a great tour guide. I enjoyed the personal tour much more than group tours I have taken at other schools. More of those should be offered. Casey is the best thing since sliced bread. Casey was a very nice and enthusiastic ambassador. Casey was an excellent tour guide. Thank you! Casey was awesome! Casey was awesome! Very friendly, funny, and knowledgeable about Montclair. Casey was really great. Very thorough and friendly and entertaining Casey was the best!!! Casey was very informative, and an amazing guide on our tour. I felt bad I couldn't give him a free t-shirt. He did a very good job. Casey was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. His humor, honesty and opinions about campus life, made what can be a daunting experience, for a soon to be college student, a very pleasant one. Thank you, The Cuzzola Family Coming into the school, I didn't think I was going to like it. I was just looking at it because it was different from what I have seen or looked in to. Although leaving, after my tour, I fell in love with the college and the campus, and I haven't stopped smiling since I left! Daphne gave a great tour!!! She convinced me that Montclair State University is the best school for me :) !!!! Definitely worth taking an actual tour rather than just looking at brochures and doing online tour. It is an absolute MUST to actually come, see and get a feel for what the University truly has to offer. I was impressed with all of the improvements that have been done over the years and are continuing to be done in the present day. Denise was a wonderful asset to our Montclair State University experience. She was honest and real and her love of the University is apparent. Emily is the cutest! Emily was very enthusiastic! Emily was very friendly and outgoing, and asked all of us about our possible majors so that we would all have a chance to see what we wanted to see. She gave an in-depth account of Montclair's history, and explained how the living arrangements worked. Great Ambassador!!!! So personable and approachable. We loved the experience. Thank you Kelsey! We can't wait to apply next year! Casey Wehr Great experience for our daughter to get onto a campus and get a feeling for college life. Great that Montclair seems to be a place that has a lot going on, not too small. Great guide. Despite being a bio major, Myla was very knowledgeable about the art programs, and to the art focused group, she was able to give a much more personal tour because of what she knew about the school and individuals she was guiding. Excellent job! Great guide. She was friendly and answered all of our questions honestly and completely. She has a genuine enthusiasm for the school, but she did not seem to be portraying it as something it is not. She held our attention for an hour. Great job! Great tour guide! She made the visit to Montclair so much more fun and worth it than I thought it would be!!!! Great Tour, Answered all my questions. My name is Christopher Macco great tour, was not aware of all that this school offered especially the rec center that was very nice. great tour.. nice pace and very informative. Sabreen did a great job. Great. Thanks. I absolutely loved the school and the atmosphere. This is a place I can consider one of my top choices in my college search I adore this college! Hoping to attend it in the near future! Its my number 1 choice by far! Fell even more in love after the tour. I chaperoned a trip of students to the college to expose them to college life in general and Montclair State University specifically (as an Alumni). My students were extremely impressed and several stated that is where they desire to attend college. Ebony Potts is fantastic. She holds a large group's attention, is very informative and friendly, and still provides individual attention to members of the group's interests. I would go as far to say that she deserves a promotion, but would love to have her as an ambassador for a trip with new students in the fall. I intend to expose as many future students to MSU as I can!!! The renovations since my graduation are breathtaking! I enjoyed my time at the university. The campus was quite a bit more than I expected. I enjoyed the experience overall, it was very insightful. I look forward to transferring to Montclair if I get accepted. I enjoyed the tour very much and I believe the academics meet my desires. I am very interested in the pre-med program or biology. Montclair will definitely be a school I will apply to and hope to be accepted into. Thank you. I enjoyed visiting the campus! The tour guide was really knowledgeable and gave a sufficient amount of information. Montclair State University is my first choice and after visiting the campus, I KNEW that Montclair would be the place for me! After the

tour, I visited the bookstore to buy some clothes and other things to bring back. My family and I also went to the Red Hawk Diner after the bookstore and the service was impressive! I cannot wait to apply and possibly be a future Red Hawk! I enrolled right after the tour ended. I had applied to Montclair State already, and been accepted, but I hadn't truly got to see the whole campus. I got to see some of it when I came in to audition for the Broadcasting Department and thought that what I saw as enough to understand Montclair State and its campus. But I signed up for a personal tour anyway just to take another look and soon realized that I was wrong. During the tour I had learned more and saw more about Montclair then ever before. But the tour didn't only help me become more informed about Montclair but also more excited about it. Your tour guide, Jocelyn Schneider, made me feel really comfortable around her and made the experience fun. Her excitement for everything she was talking about, especially Broadway show trips, made me just as excited and even more interested in the school itself. Jocelyn is an amazing, kind, energetic ambassador for your school and has truly helped me keep Montclair State University in the running. Overall my experience was great and has to be one of the best tours I have been on. So thank you for that. I have already applied and have been accepted to MSU, this tour was a revisit to help in making my final decision as a senior. After this visit I am still considering other schools, however I felt like I fit in the school for the most part. I have already applied to Montclair! I absolutely love it here, I really hope I get accepted! :) I have already been accepted to MSU. I have been giving tours for my campus at Middlesex County College for about a year and half now and I have to say Samantha did an outstanding job! Even though we were not able to visit the residence halls she was able to point them out and distinguish the differences so verbally well, that I was able to visually vision the room settings without even having too see them. Also, since she was not studying the field I was interested (business), she was still able to point me in all the right directions with sufficient information of who I should speak to and where I should go in regards for my future possible transfer to Montclair University. She also went out of her way to print out information for the cost for the dorms, Accounting Departments contact information and other information as well for my friend and I highly recommend Samantha for any tour, and she did a great professional job of persuading me to keep Montclair on top of my list for a future transfer. I liked the personal tour because Brian covered my field and my interest. The tour was absolutely beautiful. My father and I enjoyed the tour. I liked the tour very much. Emily was a great tour guide, very friendly. As to the resident halls, I would rate the Heights a 10, the best, and Bohn, maybe a 7 but the view from the 13th floor was great! I would love to see the Manhattan Skyline at night from the 13th floor lounge. I love the tour guide I was given. Given this campus tour makes gives me more reason to attend Montclair State University. I loved Montclair and I will definitely be applying in the fall. The campus was better than I expected. I misplaced the card that Melissa provided with her last name. She was informative, positive and represented the University extremely well. I do remember that she dorms in the "heights" in the building where "Sam's" is located. Hopefully this narrows it down. I thought the tour was great and I got to get a good idea about the atmosphere of the school. I enjoyed how the ambassador (Arely Calpeno) added into the tour some of her own personal experiences in the school. I think the tour has given me a great understanding of the school and life at Montclair State I visited twice and the personal tour verified my decision of wanting to attend Montclair I want to take a moment to thank our guide, Steph "The awesome" DiCindio. This young lady was very knowledgeable answering our questions, she gave us a lot of information that came from her past experiences living on campus. She had a great attitude and made the process fun. She also accommodated my Son and I into her 2:00 PM tour, because upon our arrival, the receptionist could not find us in the system. Please thank Steph again for being so nice to us! Maria and Nicholas Teixeira I was scheduled for a group tour but I ended up being the only one there, I actually enjoyed it more because I got to learn more about the school and things that would pertain to my major I intend on taking. I love the school even more now! I was surprised at how the University grew & how beautiful it is kept. It's been so many years since I've been on campus - A true gem right in our backyard! I was very impressed with the campus and its layout. Jessica Smith was an excellent tour guide and she provided a wealth of information around the student experience I would definitely recommend to others to take this tour. It is a very nice well kept campus. It started raining on tour and Casey gave me his coat to wear so I didn't get wet. I've never been to a school that cared so much about me. A man willing to give the shirt off his back for someone, it's incredible. My Mom and I discussed it the whole way back. Montclair seems like home. It was a great tour and Brian was extremely delightful. It was a pleasant experience at Montclair! It was a very nice tour and I really liked the campus.

It was fantastic! I received a great amount of knowledge about the university! I will most definitely be attending Montclair State University in the fall! It was great, the time we spent was 2 hours but felt like half an hour! It was very helpful that Sam had my major and she answered a ton of questions that weren't answered on a previous tour. I've been accepted and I have decided to attend! It was wonderful! I've already been accepted and was presenting my portfolio, but I had never been to the school before. I hope I get into the film program because of all the schools I saw I like Montclair the best. Our tour guide was the best! I've already been accepted. Jenna Fitzgerald was an awesome tour guide! I didn't have many questions left to ask after all the information she gave me. She definitely made me want to enroll in Montclair. She's the best! Jenna was amazing and the tour guide can really make all the difference. You can tell she loves going to Montclair and she has a very professional way about her. She will go far. We took a tour at Kutztown which was just awful, and really turned us off to the place. We were wondering what we would have thought if someone like Jenna had given us the tour. Jocelyn was a very engaging tour guide and took a wet rainy day and made it a fun and informative experience. Kelsey was awesome! loved Montclair University!! will definitely apply next year! I am a junior this year. Melissa was extremely friendly and made the tour enjoyable. The atmosphere of the campus is awesome, even on a cold, rainy day. I'm especially looking forward to hopefully getting that acceptance letter now. Michelle G my tour guide was sweet and very informative. My son and I learned a lot about the campus, course studies, meal plans and Dorms on our tour. At the end of my tour I felt relieved and happy that my son will be comfortable living and studying at Montclair Univ. My daughter has already applied. She waited so long to tour because she is just recovering from knee surgery. She had the surgery in December, so that kind of threw her off in her college visits. My daughter has already been accepted, this was our 2nd visit. We are now in the decision making process. Michelle G. was a wonderful tour guide and I was impressed how much she already knew considering she was a Freshman. My Mom (who is an MSU alumni) and I attended the tour together, and it was interesting for her to see how much the campus has changed. We both enjoyed the tour with Daphine. My tour guide, Jocelyn, was very friendly. She was very informed of all of the buildings. She knew about the security lights and police around campus. Very knowledgeable and helpful about facts of dorms, being co-ed, and eating packets. While going pass the buildings, Jocelyn also would tell some touring students who are interested in a specific major, which building they would be studying more at and if they wanted someone specified in that major to give them an individual tour. Jocelyn was very friendly and knew a lot about the university which made it more interesting and one of my top choices. At a point during the tour, she told the group she was in one of the buildings because she is studying a minor in sign language and I am interested in sign language, so that made Montclair University even higher on my scale. Myla was just fantastic. Friendly, well-spoken and well-mannered. Just a wonderful experience. Nice looking campus and surrounding town. Very good program. Thanks! Nina was great her personality makes the tour more interesting !!!!! thanks Nina !!! even after the tour was over she helped to fill up my application and gave me some advices from her own point of view as a current student thanks again I hope to join u guys on the fall !!!! att : sheila mitssunaga ;) Our Guide was excellent. our tour left at 2:10pm. I do not recall her name. After everyone left, she stayed behind and continued filling us in on the campus life and her experience. Our son was accepted, but we decided to take a complete tour of the campus prior to selecting MSU. After the tour he elected to register for the fall 2012 semester. Our tour director Daphine was great. Perfect personality for the job! our tour guide was lovely. she obviously loves the school and represented the school beautifully! overall the tour was good !! Sam was great! In fact I had her for a group tour back and November (in which she was also great) and she and I recognized each other right away! She was very knowledgeable and personable--not to mention she went out of her way to show us her room in the Heights which I was particularly interested in seeing. Even at the end of the tour, Sam stuck around to help me with some questions I had about applying for housing (as I am already admitted to the school). Overall my friends and I found our tour to be extremely enjoyable, informative, and interesting. I could not have asked for a better tour guide, or tour. Thank you Sam for a great day! Samantha L. went above and beyond to answer all of the group’s questions and concerns. Her wonderful personality and enthusiasm about the school really got me very excited about applying to Montclair. The overall vibe of the school is exactly

After visiting Montclair State University, I have finally made my decision that I will definitely be attending MSU! The gym was great! The office was very accommodating in allowing us to view a room at the Heights. My daughter had pretty much decided to come to MSU but my husband had not seen the campus until today. He loved it and we will be sending in her deposit within a few days! (Our ambassador was terrific. My daughter and I went on a group tour over the summer and our ambassador (Alyssa) was poor. My daughter tried not to let that cloud her judgment of the university as a whole, which is hard to do. So we are glad we had Yve this time.) The tour ambassador was friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. She did a great job. The tour gave us the information needed to help with our higher education decisions. Tara did a wonderful job describing the University in detail. She also gave a clear perspective of student life at Montclair University. Thank you. She is a great ambassador for MSU Tour guide was a great person, and I really like the school. Very impressed with the size of the campus and what it has to offer. Very well done, AJ answered all but one question knowledgeably and in a friendly manner. Seemed very positive about the school. My son has already been accepted, and is in the process of deciding which school to attend. At this point he is favoring Montclair. Beautiful dorm set up in the Heights. Victoria was excellent. She was very knowledgeable concerning campus life and the different programs available on campus. She did an excellent job. We did not get any literature/handout about the college. We greatly enjoyed the tour - Emily was very helpful and quite enjoyable to be around. She gave ample opportunities for people to ask additional questions. She is an asset to your ambassador program. We took the tour for my son, Bryan, who is a junior in high school. It was his first college tour, and I think he was very impressed with what the college has to offer. Michelle, our tour guide, was fantastic! The presentation was impeccable. Thank you for being so organized and great.
