The Archdiocese of Sydney is gearing up for the third Australian Catholic Youth Festival to be held in the harbour city from December 7 to 9.
The three-day festival has the theme ‘Open New Horizons for Spreading Joy: Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment’, and will be hosted by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference in partnership with the Archdiocese of Sydney. Guest performers will include speaker, author and musician, Emily Watson and Canadian songwriter
and worship leader, Matt Maher. Young people will celebrate their faith as one at Sydney Olympic Park and other locations around the city. The Festival will mark the start of the Year of Youth in 2018, proclaimed by the Bishops of Australia to celebrate 10 years since Sydney’s World Youth Day. The theme of the Sydney festival will continue throughout the Year of Youth in 2018. The Year of Youth will be part of a journey of ‘dialogue and discernment’ as the Church in Australia contributes to the next Synod of Bishops in Rome during 2018 with its focus on ‘Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment’. Previous festivals were held in Melbourne in 2013 and in Adelaide two years ago. For registration and further details go to: www.youthfestival. catholic.org.au
