gin, brandy, vermouth … and even bitters. How about some Blueberry Gin? If wines and spirits are not your beverage of choice there are some delicious ciders to be had along the way … Maine apples, of course. In addition, almost everyone had cheese and/or crackers and chocolates! I want to tell you about a few of the places I did visit, but please, keep in mind this is just a sample and they do differ. Also keep in mind I am not a wine connoisseur or a professional sommelier. I am simply giving you my impressions. In Rockport, we (my sister and I) stopped by Cellardoor Winery, the Villa. It is a tasting room with wine for sale, as well as an assortment of foods and attractive gifts -- in beautiful show rooms. Two charming young ladies made us feel very welcome. My favorites “tastes” there were the Chardonnay (nice balance of fruit and oak and very smooth) and the Clary Hill Blue, a Maine blueberry wine (which I thought would be too sweet and was not … slightly dry, medium-bodied). It was really enjoyable and said to go well with chevre or bleu cheese. *(See Food For Thought - Ellen Spooner’s article on “Cheeses” in this issue.)
