Henry (Harry) Edward Mercer Private MGS Career Henry (Harry) Edward Mercer joined MGS on the 15th September 1910 and he left at Easter 1911. Background He was born on the 2nd May 1897 to Edward and Florence Mercer. He lived at 51 John Street, Maidstone, not far from Fremlin Walk (Fremlin Brewery back then); however his parents had moved to Hilda Road near Sheerness by the time he died. His father was a farmer and he had a younger sister called Rosetta, who was a year younger than he was. Military Record Private Harry Mercer served in the 3rd/4th battalion of the Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). His unit number was 200373. Obituary He died on the 11th November 1917, just aged 20. He has a memorial in Boxley Church, and he is buried in the Talana Farm Cemetery, Belgium. !
