WHAT IS MAIA? The University of Miami’s Master of Arts in International Administration (MAIA) Program is designed for students pursuing administrative positions in international settings. MAIA prepares individuals for leadership and management careers in government, multinational corporations (MNC’s), non-profit sector, for-profit sector, and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) that are international in scope. Unlike conventional “International Affairs” Programs, MAIA equips students with both the operational skills and a solid conceptual background resulting in graduates that are theoretically capable practitioners. Our objective is to accommodate today’s growing segment of students who are in search of a graduate degree that is thought-provoking, stimulating and rewarding. Our Program is located in a main hub for international commerce and service. Accreditation: The Master of Arts in International Administration (MAIA) Program is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) and of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA). The University of Miami is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award bachelors, masters, specialist, and doctoral degrees.

UM alumni live in all 50 states and in 154 countries; over 93,550 reside in Florida, including over 51,370 in Miami-Dade County. There are just over 193,400 alumni in UM's history.

Electives: The remaining nine (9) elective credit hours will be completed in an area of concentration selected by the student. Course availability subject to change per semester.

Concentration Options: International Business/Business Certificate, Public Health (Dual Program Option Available), Strategic Communications, Human Rights/General, Geographic Information Systems, Security Management

APPLICATION MATERIALS CHECKLIST: Domestic students interested in applying to the Master of Arts in International Administration should submit the following: • Complete Online Application Form - $65.00 non-refundable application fee paid online • Statement of Purpose • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation: one (1) from a Professor/Faculty (Required), two (2) preferably from an employer, colleague, or professional source • Official transcripts from each post-secondary institution (University/College) attended (even if only one course was taken) • An acceptable undergraduate grade point average (GPA). The GPA of the typical applicant is at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.* • Resume (optional) *GMAT and LSAT scores are also accepted. Students should have a combined verbal and quantitative score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) of at least 300. Each application is individually reviewed so please submit all materials, regardless of scores.

MAIA STUDY ABROAD: MAIA encourages students to participate in graduate study abroad opportunities. While this is not a program requirement, the experience will not only promote a more well-rounded international education, but also a deeper multicultural understanding and strong global perspective which complements the MAIA curriculum. The University of Miami’s International Education & Exchange Programs Department provides several graduate study abroad options. Exciting study abroad programs to Brazil, Peru and the Galapagos Islands are accepted as Practicum opportunities for all MAIA students. Other options may also be considered.

MAIA/MPH DUAL DEGREE: The Master of Arts in International Administration/Master in Public Health (MAIA/MPH) degree is offered jointly by the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences and the Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences. The International Administration degree with a second master’s degree in Public Health is designed for students who seek an in-depth knowledge of public health with a broader emphasis in globalization and health, international health, international health policy and international development.

Admissions: Applicants must be admitted into the MAIA and MPH Programs on a separate basis, based on the admissions requirements and procedure of each individual program. Acceptance by one program does not in any way indicate or guarantee acceptance by the other degree program. Both the MAIA and the MPH degree programs require the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) as part of the admissions requirements. For students whose native language is not English, successful completion the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination is required.

Dual Degree Curriculum: PROGRAM TOTAL CREDIT HOURS: 60 Average Program Duration: 2.5 years The total requirements for the MAIA/MPH program are 60 credits. These requirements include 30 MPH credits and 30 MAIA credits. Students must be enrolled in both programs concurrently each semester (fall and spring) to avoid being discounted from either program.

The University of Miami was founded in 1925; classes began October 1926. The Coral Gables campus, with its two colleges and seven schools, is located on a 239-acre tract in beautiful suburban Coral Gables.

CULMINATING CAPSTONE (6 Credits): EPH 680 Field Experience (3 credits) IGS 617 Practicum in International Administration (3 credits) Students enrolled in the MAIA/MPH Dual Degree Programs are required to register for both Capstone courses and conduct a two hundred (200) hour internship in a related field. Students have secured challenging and exciting internship opportunities in organizations/corporations such as Catalyst Miami, The Beacon Council, U.S. Southern Command, British Consulate General, Amnesty International, American Red Cross, Clinton Global Initiative, American Express, Cato Institute, Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Department of State, Union Bank of Switzerland, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Bacardi Limited, City of Miami Commissioner’s Office, Avianca Airlines, Adrienne Arsht Center, City Year, Democratic National Committee, Burger King Corporation, Jackson Memorial Hospital, World Vision, and many more.

Global Business Consulting (GBC) Project: Every year MAIA students are invited to apply and have been successfully chosen for the Global Business Consulting Project which is run through the University of Miami’s Center for International Business Education and Research Department within the School of Business Administration. This exciting venture is applicable towards the MAIA Practicum/Internship component and provides students with invaluable real life experience. The Global Business Consulting gives students the opportunity to travel abroad and work on real projects for real companies. It's the perfect opportunity for a graduate student to gain valuable hands-on international business experience. Participants in the Global Business Consulting solve real problems, and experience real success. GBC Marshals the talents of students from a consortium of four top university business schools to provide innovative solutions to the pressing international business challenges/opportunities of multinational firms. These institutions are The George Washington University, University of Maryland, San Diego State University and the University of Miami. Our students have had the opportunity to engage in challenging projects around the world with prestigious companies such as Boston Scientific, GE Healthcare, Pepsico, Monsanto, Westinghouse, SAP, Lilly, AGCO, Grupo RBS, AMGEN, Celistics, Google, and Giageo, just to name a few.
