LUXURY ROOM MAKEOVERS Dining Room Like NYC St. Regis Hotel

Color: Gray, Slate and your favorite variety of blue - teal, sky blue, navy. You choose! White crown molding sets the colors off with matching table. The panel molding can be precut at Home Depot/Lowes for you. The flooring should be a pattern of checks, diamonds or scrolls of some type. It will set the room and is a very important “finisher being that there are lots of solids. Your drapes should be a slate variation. The white sheers behind the drapes continues the brightening of the room. Furnishings are mirrored consoles or buffets. The dining room table should definitely be white. Bring pattern into the room with the chair seat coverings. Wall decor can be framed art, mirrors or sconces, making sure you play off the bright walls with contrast. Finish off the room with an ornate chandelier or go modern with a globe style. If you want to play down feminity, a large shade chandelier would be nice.

This room uses pops of gray/white, slate and blue green. Again, any variation of blues would work. The panel molding interior can be paint or fabric. One of the easiest ways to put fabric on a wall is with undiluted starch in a spray bottle. Spray wall, a few sections at a time; place fabric and smooth. Place panel molding and you are done. It’s very easy to remove and does not pull paint off the wall. The reddish chandelier breaks up the color palette a bit. There are lots of choices for lighting for this type of room, although it is best to choose lighting that pops and doesn’t just blend in. The multi-colored patterned couch could also be comfy, plump chairs. Definitely use a patterned fabric to break up the solids. Flanking the bed are mirrored bedside consoles and slate footstools to finish it off. If you have the room, adding a desk or dressing table is nice. A white washed console with a piece of glass on top is luxurious and reflects light. The Art! This installation can be as easy as a mix of plates or if you have a series of pictures or other unique art objects. The key is placement. You can center it over the headboard if you want, but jump outside the norm and try this.

This room uses pops of gray/white, slate and blue as well but adds rich golds and dark wood. The pictures below are two different rooms with the same bed style, yet different accessories and paneling. The bed crown over the bed, holds the fabric. Make sure the fabric is lined with a contrasting color or pattern. You can get bed crowns on Ebay, Horchow and Amazon. Room one uses fancy panel molding to frame the fabric. This can easily be done by using panel molding to frame fabric and then place wood rosettes in the corners. These rooms are very rich and lush. For lighting, definitely stick with the crystal chandelier unless you want to tone it down a bit. Room two incorporates rich wood tones with the desk and tables. Playing gold off neutral colors is the best way to not look gaudy but luxurious. Flanking the bed in Bedroom one are simple tables with fabric and glass on the top. I like the use of this type of bedside table because you can change out the fabric anytime. In addition to the tables, swing wall sconces finish off this beautiful bed. Antique Mercury Glass!

diy board Transform any piece of glass into a beautiful decor update with an antiqued mercury glass style finish. Once you have practiced on glass jars, use the same treatment to update glass lamps or lights, as well as serving trays. Materials: Various glass containers (must be glass) Spray bottle Water White vinegar Krylon looking glass spray, paper towels, newspaper or other protective covering. Cover outside area where you will be working. Thoroughly clean and dry all glass pieces. Fill a spray bottle with 1 part water to 1 part white vinegar and shake to combine. Set nozzle of spray bottle to it’s finest mist setting. Put on any protective gloves or masks you wish to use. First gently spray a fine mist of vinegar/water on the outside of your glass container; you are looking for small droplets of water that bead up and do not run. Follow up the water/ vinegar spray almost immediately with a gentle and even layer of the metallic spray. Let dry one minute and gently blot with a paper towel for the pattern you want. Repeat the process two more times. Let dry 3 hours. CLICK PICTURE FOR MORE INDEPTH DETAILS!

Makeup Tricks! I love makeup tricks. Some of them work and some don’t. I have a few things that I obsess over and one of them is a very thin upper lip with lines. You would think I smoke, but I never have been a smoker. I’ve tried lots of things and getting very close to a filler but, I’m still not too hip on that yet although I have no problem with it. Here are three of my favorite makeup tricks or tips. Whatever you want to call them. All three I have tried personally with great results. By the way, I do not care for powder to set my makeup because of dry skin. Lilly Stone of Sooo Lilly turned me on to Model in a Bottle to set my makeup and it truly works. My makeup stays on all day long.

Plush, Billowy Lips Grab a colorless lip balm with shimmer, and apply it to the skin just above your cupid’s bow — the area below your nose and between the peaks of your top lip. Adding light to that area creates the illusion of larger lips. Then apply a moisturizing lipstick. Hydrating ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, bind pout-plumping water to your mouth. Make sure it has a high-shine finish; matte versions don’t reflect light. Finish with a swipe of the shimmery balm on the center of your bottom lip.

Flawless Skin After moisturizing, spread on a light primer with silica, which has a filling effect. Choose a liquid foundation with silicone (match your neck). Avoid luminous or matte ones (they make the skin appear either too moist or too flat to be natural). Blend downward toward the perimeter of your face. Slenderize your face by using a slightly lighter foundation in a V-shape in the center of your face (center forehead, nose, chin and inner cheeks). Use a damp sponge to tap face, removing excess and blending. HIde imperfections with a fine-tipped brush, dab a solid concealer over blemishes or dark spots that are still visible. Set makeup with translucent powder or MODEL IN A BOTTLE, makeup setting spray from SoooLilly. com or go by at Kokopellis. Lilly will also teach you techniques!

Dramatic Lower Lashes It can be difficult to get mascara on your lower lashes without clumps or smudges. This is definitely a “trick”. Scrape off excess mascara from the brush and apply one coat. Use a wet eyeliner brush to apply charcoal-colored powder in lashlike strokes on top of the bottom lashes and a little under the bottom eye lids. For a fast application, Clinique and Maybelline both make a mini-brush mascara that is perfect for tiny bottom eyelashes.
