SPRING INTO SOMETHING NEW

MISS MEANINGFUL COLUMN

SPRING IS NATURE’S WAY OF SAYING, ‘LET’S PARTY!’

JANINE PHILLIPS AKA MISS MEANINGFUL

THE LATE ROBIN WILLIAMS ONCE SAID:

I agree! I actually love the transition from winter to spring. There’s a feeling of renewal and change in the air and a sense that anything can happen. Flowers start to bloom and the sun warms us up, the bees come out to play and the leaves on trees shine bright. Yes, it’s spring and it’s time to get outside. It reminds me of a favourite quote from Dr Seuss: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” In spring we stop hibernating and get out more. There’s much to do around town but may I suggest trying something a little different? Want to learn Origami gift wrapping? There’s a class for that. Want to raise chickens? There’s a class for that too.

Want to learn to dance? Plenty of options to choose from. Always wanted to make your own sauerkraut? Well here’s your chance! For a fun and less formal way to learn, check out Laneway Learning. They offer an eclectic mix of evening classes at bargain prices. Facilitated by passionate people from the local community, courses are held in small groups on weekday evenings. Held in cafes and bars around Melbourne – in the CBD, Northcote, St Kilda and Brunswick - these evenings are also a great way to meet people with a common interest. Whether you’re into bee-keeping, life skills, science or juggling … there’s something for everyone. As a chocolate lover I was excited to attend the chocolate tasting class delivered by connoisseurs Chris and Tina from Xocolatl.

Both extremely passionate and knowledgeable, their entertaining banter was captivating and particularly charming considering they are father and daughter. They took us on a chocolate making journey sharing delicious samples along the way. Imagine our delight when we were given a goodie bag full of Xocolatl chocolate. It was a really great way to learn.

is passionate about philanthropy and business with a love of combining the two living by the motto ‘one devoted person can initiate change’.
