Pebble Ponds provides fun, but challenging Par-3 course Located just minutes from Twin Falls, Pebble Ponds Golf Course is a 9-hole course that offers all the amenities of the big boys. The par-3 course features several risk-reward holes that will challenge even the most experienced golfers. Water comes in to play on two holes on the par-27 course, including the signature No. 8, where golfers face a challenging pitch over a gravity-fed pond that eats lots of golf balls. Measuring 1,000 yards total from the white tees, the course is ideal for those looking to work on their short game. Golfers very seldom get a break from the predominant southerly winds that gently blow from the west, making club and shot selection difďŹ cult. But Pebble Ponds is also a great place for beginners or for mom and dad to bring the kids along. On nearly every hole, you will need to keep the ball in the fairway to have good scoring opportunities. But all the greens are reachable in one shot, with the longest hole being No. 1, which measures 160 yards from the white tees. With a relatively at layout, the course is an easy walk and presents fun and challenges with its open front greens, mounding and few wind breaks. For those short on time, the course can be played in less than 75 minutes. Pebble Ponds boasts the largest driving range in the Magic Valley and offers free lessons at 10 a.m. each Saturday from June to August with the purchase of a large bucket of balls. Each Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday at Pebble Ponds when a 9-hole round is only $5. The course also offers a day pass for $15, which allows golfers to play unlimited rounds that day. Golfers can also come and go during the day with the pass, playing a round in the morning before work and another in the evening. Pebble Ponds clubhouse offers the golf gear and equipment you need, but also has a full wine and beer bar and offers a lunch menu that will make your mouth water.

A Diamond in the Desert…

Jackpot Golf Club Jackpot, Nevada

Nestled in northern Nevada, Jackpot Golf Club is an award-winning 18-hole, par 72 course that challenges golfers of all levels. With more than 6,900 total yards, this championship course designed in 1971 by Robert Muir Graves offers rolling hills, large and fast greens and gorgeous views of the surrounding desert. Golfers won’t be disappointed spending the day here. At a mile-high elevation, this quiet and peaceful course is a perfect place to escape some of the valley heat, but don’t be surprised to see wildlife joining you on the fairway. Common to this golf course are coyotes, antelope and rabbits, as well as plenty of hawks and owls that call this course home. With bent grass greens and fairways, look for one of the best conditioned courses around, accommodating to players from beginner to advanced levels. Jackpot Golf Club has also been host to the Idaho State Open for 10 years. This tournament is probably the only state open to be held in another state. Many great players made their mark on this course as a start to their professional career. In fact, Jackpot Golf Club will be home to the distinguished Idaho Men’s State Amateur Signature Hole tournament in 2013 where 240 of the best amateur golfers will tee off July 12-14 for a 3-day No. 8 “The Hawk” slugfest for the top prize. When asked about the tournament, PGA Professional Brent Fleshman Par 4 Yardage: 407 yards, dogleg left said, “It is Idaho’s premier amateur golfing event. It really is an honor to host it.” Tee Shot: Should be played left of the pine If that isn’t a big enough reason to peak your interest to try out this course, consider the tree in the fairway. Attempt to leave the ball abundance of other attractions Jackpot has to offer. Summer concerts from musical greats such below the hole on your approach shot. as Sammy Hagar, Martina McBride and The Band Perry can be heard while on the back nine or Distinguishing Features: Considered to in person at Cactus Pete’s Resort & Casino just a few blocks away. Trail Creek Golf Course was redesigned into its current look/feel in the late 70’s. Named after the prominent water feature, Trail Creek, this course has memorable views, holes, and hopefully shots. With five sets of tees the round can be a great test for golfers of all abilities. The front nine drops below the ridge and you follow the Trail Creek for most of the front. The back nine has a bit more elevation change and is slightly easier than the front nine. There is a great mix of “in-play” elevation changes giving the player a different look on each swing. From downhill par 3’s to uphill par 4’s you will not have the same shot twice in 18-holes. The trees have matured to a state of menacing trouble, making position off the tee a top priority. This is a straight forward and classic golf course giving the player the option to be as aggressive as they desire, truly a “risk-reward” golf course. All the Par 5’s are reachable in two, par 4’s are not overly long, several are drivable, but there is an abundance of trouble. The greens are the one area where the golf course is very forgiving. My recommendation, play to the middle of the fairways and be aggressive into the greens. Large relatively flat and very receptive describes the surfaces on the Trial Creek Golf Course. Trail Creek has the best collection of par 3’s I have seen. From 240 yards downhill to 145 yards uphill a great mix of distances forcing the player to “play” their way around the property. The signature hole is hole #10, a classy par 3 over water to a well-protected green on all sides. The view is stunning from the tee-box on this hole, but focus a big number is possible with an errant tee-shot. Fall is an excellent time to enjoy golf in Sun Valley. The courses are in the best shape, colors are changing, and weather is fantastic. The Aspen Glow package in the fall is wonderful way to experience golf at the Sun Valley Resort. Find yourself on what Golf Digest calls “one of the best 100 golf courses in the United States and #1 golf course in Idaho.” The Sun Valley Resort Golf Course is a rugged and spectacular golf course that will provide a challenging round of golf for every level of player. Robert Trent Jones Jr. finished his redesign of the course in 1980 with a full complement of stream carries and ominous bunkers well positioned to catch the errant shot. The 6,941 yard, 72 par course has 18 signature holes and crosses the beautiful Trail Creek seven times on the front nine alone! Sun Valley Resort’s nine-hole addition, White Clouds, joins the acclaimed 18-hole Trail Creek Course for 27 holes of wonderful golf. White Clouds opened late summer 2008 along with a new clubhouse and practice facility. Don Knott was the golf course architect of this“mountain style links”course. Mr.Knott was an assistant with the Jones Firm before branching out on his own. With five sets of tees, maxing out at 3,600 yards, the par 36White Clouds Course is a welcome addition to the Resort. Breathtaking views atop a stunning ridgeback, fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, and ever-present crystal blue skies. Golf at the Sun Valley Resort is a well-earned addition to any golfers’ resume. Sawtooths Putting Course: 18 holes 52,000 Square feet of real bent grass, hills, and undulations. Putt-putt on steroids! Great fun for golfers, non-golfers, old and young alike, putters are available as needed, but we recommended you bring your own when possible. Large driving range with mounded targets, looking and hitting directly at Bald Mountain. Practice putting and chipping greens all in close proximity to one another and the clubhouse. A 58,756 sq. ft. stone clubhouse doubles as headquarters for the Sun Valley Nordic Golf Resort and in the winter the Nordic and Snowshoe Center. This facility provides all the amenities for both activities including a restaurant, bar, pro shop and an indoor virtual golf. For reservations please call (800) 786-8259.
