UTAH STEALTH Stealth Take Sole Possession of 2nd Utah Stealth-35, Brigham Sting-19 Friday, May 16, 2014 Woods Cross, Utah The Utah Stealth and Brigham Sting met under the Friday night lights of the Davis High School field for one of the first Stars and Stripes events of the weekend. Brigham’s undefeated record was finally matched by the tough offensive powerhouse of the Stealth. Stealth quarterback Jeff Wissler led the offensive unit with his 14 completions of 28 pass attempts for 218 yards and three touchdowns. Sam Thomas was the recipient of all three Wissler touchdowns, as he completed a top performance of five catches for 110 yards. Colten Stark would also contribute with six catches for 64 yards. The ground game was held together by IK and CJ Ubani. IK led with 89 yards on 18 carries, while CJ had four carries for 49 yards and the team’s only rushing touchdown of the night. Kicker Scott Thomsen would contribute 11 of the 35 Stealth points, including three field goals (one of which was made from 47 yards). Defensive end Andrew Robinson and linebacker Arron Smith led the defensive effort for the Stealth with seven tackles apiece. Robinson would also add three tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
CJ Ubani and Vic McKenzie would have six tackles apiece. Ubani would also have an interception against Sting quarterback Brad Thurber. Greg Tichnor and Mike Wissler accounted for 5.5 tackles apiece in their effort. Efoti Vainuku, IK Ubani, and Cody Berry would also contribute on defense with five tackles apiece. Brigham quarterback Brad Thurber led the Sting charge against the Stealth with 18 completions of 34 attempts for 170 yards and an interception that landed in the hands of CJ Ubani of the Stealth. Thurber would also run for 13 yards on three carries. Justin Dominguez and Travis Anderson led the receiving corps, as Dominguez hauled in five passes for 56 yards and Anderson with three catches for 65 yards. Shay Kaleikini would lead the rushing attack once again this week with 15 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Jesse Balls was shut-down for most of the night, as he would finish with just 23 yards on 13 carries. Shawn Elvin would also contribute with a 23-yard field goal for the team. On defense, the Sting were led by defensive back Wes Rees with 4.5 tackles and two pass deflections. Dale Nicholas would also contribute a large amount of the team effort with four tackles, one for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery taken for 85 yards for the two-point conversion off of Tony Belford’s blocked extra point.
Greg Williams and Mike Messinger had 3.5 tackles apiece, including Messinger’s two tackles for loss and one interception he would return for four yards. In two weeks, the Utah Stealth will
host the Boise Generals in Woods Cross, Utah. The Brigham Sting will host the Logan Stampede in the second Battle of Cache Valley to be played in Brigham City, Utah.
