“The Double Edged Sword”
“Students increasing dependency on technology in every aspect of their academic lives is a double edged sword” said Richard Glover, Head of English in the Overseas Family School. When he was questioned about the recent announcement that the international school will become the first IB World School to proudly deliver its entire curriculum online by 2015. Students have shown the capability of having the responsibility on taking their academic issue seriously with the opportunity of the technical facilities Overseas Family School has offered. Being able to give out assignments via internet has become more convenient these days. The amount of resources in the internet helps the students to open up their minds on being independent to judge if one’s sources can be helpful relating to the assignment they have been given. The developmental stage of information in the internet has increased rapidly. As technology progresses, students should be able to get the opportunity to share their education’s experience through them, also being taught at a young age with the use of technology will innovate their studies through online courses that they will embrace through and expand their creativity skills. Starting at this age, teenagers will cope to figure out and get use to getting rid of traditional ways of teaching and move into the future also with this means that there will be more improvements made to it once the young minds get used to education through the dependency of technology. Technology is getting more advanced, using the advantage of it and doing something new really helps keep the students motivated as well as being openminded. With what Richard Glover has mentioned, it can however be just a partial truth. It may be a distraction to some students that don’t hold the responsibilites towards their studies and prioritze the free time of surfing the web when given time to do work on the computers which can become an academic issue to make sure of. But since we live in a life where writing letters are becoming rare and sending emails are more efficient since our era have modernized and changed majorly, we all know that the lifestlye of education will be impacted with the new facilities we offer today.
