Language and the limits of material, whether natural or artificial, define an incalculable amount of design. Every man has the right to search for the limits of material in order to offer the world a new vision of transformed reality. Antonio Serrano Bulnes. Madrid 2013
WE DREAM AND WE UNDERSTAND Mad Lab is a long-standing dream where we believe everything is possible. We understand this crisis to be a great change that everyone must make in order to pull through the recession together whilst maintaining on values that we can be proud of. WE BELIEVE Mad Lab believes design is a tool that emotionally binds end user, designer, artisan and industry in an unbreakable chain. Through our designs the end user can understand the entire process and appreciate the value of each link. WE WORK Mad Lab applies its philosophy of sustainability to all areas of our business; products are durable, of proven quality, made with certified materials and highly recyclable. Furthermore, they must be manufactured locally and with a vision of a better world for us all. Our ethos, “with what I have, what can I create ,expands our horizons towards previously inconceivable heights. WE PROVIDE. Mad Lab provides design solutions with a unique point of view. Items are crafted with utmost care by artisans and industrialists, giving an additional value to the design-craft-industry relationship by promoting fair trade values. WE COLLABORATE Mad Lab works to channel projects of emerging, talented designers who, in light of the current crisis, struggle to make their ideas a reality. We therefore propose to offer a formative project for designers, artisans and industrialists to meet and exchange ideas. Our goal is to provide our community with a productive and ever-growing network to help both experienced and up and coming designers. Additionally, Mad Lab works with other promotional and editorial companies with the aim of joining forces and producing further collaborations.
ButaKita is a structure made entirely of ask or solid natural beech. It has a unique look that provokes memories of origami. Ergonomically proven to be very comfortable, ButaKita is available in a variety of ranges from comfortable dining room chairs to those commissioned for hotels and restaurants. The seat and chair backs are cold rolled with natural adhesives. The whole process from the original idea to the end product has been developed entirely in our laboratory. The chair frame represents a deep consideration for form and function and has clear references to knives of ancient craftwork.

Antonio Serrano lives and works in Madrid. His designs are timeless and inherent; they combine the careful selection of materials, together with intricate craftwork and the use of state-of-the-art technologies, whilst maintaining a high-ecological value. Materials propose thousands of possibilities – Antonio identifies and chooses the best of these possibilities and then combines them to make his designs. This careful identification and selection is a part of his philosophy as a designer.
