1 Inpatient Room LOCATION: Portland, Oregon DURATION: One Month TERM: Spring 2021 SQ. FT: 675 sqft. Individual Project Developing inpatient rooms that fit the patients need through research based design within the elements of health, safety, and wellness for the staff and patients. Providing rooms with more biophilic and natural light design aspects will help patients adjust to long periods of time spent in the room better than the average inpatient suite. This project incorporates a space that accommodates all end users and promotes core elements of human needs.

Design Influence BACKGROUND The healing of an inpatient depends on the comfort and safety they feel within the space. To gain an understanding of the patient’s needs, it will ensure the highest rate of their wellbeing. RESEARCH Understanding the effects of design through the use of lighting techniques, color theory, and biophilia will allow for the inpatient room to connect with the patient and staff in the safest and most comfortable healthcare setting. CONCEPT The design will use the needs of the patient and staff to create a safe and secure setting. The design will incorporate natural lighting, calming colors, and biophilic patterns and lines to guide the patient through recovery in a comfortable and safe setting.

2 Residential Design: Nora and Jack LOCATION: Aspen, Colorado DURATION: One Month TERM: Fall 2020 SQ. FT: 4,500 sqft. Indivudual Project This project aimed to design a home that is safe and promotes wellbing for older adults aging in place. The implications of natural and open design is used to incorporate their needs and visual wants into a functional and safe space. The clients will be encouraged to relax into retirement while continuing their busy family lifestyle in their new environment.

Design Influence BACKGROUND As we grow older, aging in place becomes more necessary as people settle into retirement. The needs of this family is to be independant as they grow older, and to have an adaptive home for their needs. RESEARCH It is shown that the use of contrasting colors, advanced light settings, and technology have aided older adults to live freely longer, and restored their needs to be independent and safe. CONCEPT To communicate freedom with aging in place for the newly retired couple. The design will enhance their living with the open floorplan and contrasting colors for ease of visibility for aging eyes. The space will allow safe entertainment and comfortable living for their future needs.

4 The Arc: Pottery Retail and Studio LOCATION: Tulsa, Oklahoma DURATION: One Month/Fall Semester TERM: Spring/Fall 2021 SQ. FT: 2,900 sqft. Partnership with an Interior Design Student & Individual Construction Documents Focusing on a space for older adults to feel comfortable and part of the community to enhace their longevity and inclusion in their retirement stage of life. This project utilizes the creative influence of the end user combined with the social need of people, the environment aims to provide comfort, inclusivity, and safety in a public space. The space will use natural light and organic shapes to enhance the retail experience, and ensure the satisfaction of the end user.

Design Influence BACKGROUND The use of this space is to ensure the older adults feel safe and secure in their community. This design project uses researchz with lighting, material procurement, and construction documents to implement a space fit for every community member. RESEARCH The background knowledge will be based on the positive impact natural light has on the end user. A natural color pallette with non-glare surfaces will be used to avoid discomfort and common aging eye issues. Non slip surfaces are installed for safety, as well as ample access for wheelchair users. CONCEPT To provide a space for older adult end users to feel comfortable and safe within the downtown area. using research based design, the building will incorporate natural elements for a strong sense of familiarity and comfort within the space.
