Escala de valores. Walterio Iraheta

Hace más de 22 años que trabajo en arte, la mitad de ese tiempo me dediqué a la pintura y sobre todo al dibujo, luego comencé a trabajar con diferentes medios con la fotografía como el principal y de ahí me extendí al video, el objeto, la instalación y demás.

Se podría decir que soy un artista interesado en experimentar y entender los procesos del arte. Desde entonces mi trabajo ha cambiado mucho y pocas veces he mirado para atrás, quizá por que no creo en caminar sobre lo andado, sin embargo cuando el MADC me propuso esta especie de “revisión” de los últimos 10 años de mi producción -los que corresponden a mi etapa más experimental-, de alguna manera me hicieron volver la mirada a una estela de cosas que creí haber dejado atrás, fue muy interesante detenerse a mirar con ojos críticos lo que había hecho y, aunque esa no es la labor de un artista, ese golpe de timón me ha servido para especular hacia donde quiero dirigir mi trabajo en el futuro.

Ha sido un privilegio trabajar con el Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo de Costa Rica en este experimento, agradezco a su directora, curadora y a todo el equipo por su determinación y paciencia en ayudarme a tomar este “riesgo” de ver por el espejo retrovisor, ya sabemos que de esa manera se va más seguro hacia adelante.

WI I have been working in art for over 22 years. Half of that time has been dedicated to painting and especially the drawing, after which I started working with different mediums; at first mainly photography and later with video, the object, installation and others.

You could say I am an artist interested in experimenting with and understanding the processes of art. Since then my work has changed a lot and I have rarely looked back, maybe because I do not believe in going over old ground. However, when the MADC proposed this “review” of sorts to me of the last 10 years of my production –the period of my most experimental work –it somehow made ​​me look back at a whole host of things that I thought I had left behind. It was very interesting to stop and look critically at what I had done, and while this is not the work of the artist, it has helped me to reflect on what direction I want my work to take in the future.

It has been a privilege to work with the Costa Rican Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in this experiment, and I thank its director, curator and the entire team for their determination and patience in helping me take this “risk” of looking in the rear-view mirror –we all know that this is the safest way forward.
