Everything you need to know about the McMaster Alumni Association aka The 2012 Alumni Handbook Oops, you blinked! A second ago you were in first year, losing your voice from all those Welcome Week cheers, learning KTH from CNH and ABB from JHE, shuffling across campus in your PJs to get breakfast in the Commons. Now here you are: a graduate of McMaster University. Degree in hand, you’re ready to start a new chapter of your life and your career. You may have spent the last few years immersed in McMaster life, but that’s about to change. The many hours you spent in your favourite study spot (with the occasional study break spent in your favourite booth at Quarters TwelvEighty), the dozens of classes and tutorials and labs, the kilometers covered crisscrossing campus… they all led you to this moment.

Welcome to the McMaster Association, Class of 2012! We’re here to help as you begin your career and move through life, and this booklet will tell you how.

Having completed two degrees at McMaster within the past ten years, being involved with the MAA has led me to new friends and mentors, allowed me to pay forward the assistance I received by sharing my knowledge and experiences with current students. I’m excited for you to experience your unique alumni relationship with McMaster as you continue forward with your next steps in life. Congratulations on your accomplishment of graduating from one of the world’s finest universities, and a warm welcome on behalf of all McMaster alumni to our community.

Leave your mark on McMaster

■■

Every year the graduating class is given the opportunity to leave a legacy on the McMaster campus. For the Classes of ‘10, ‘11, and ‘12, their mark will be in the form of a garden, located just outside Alumni Memorial Hall. In addition, in honour of McMaster’s 125th Anniversary, the Class of 2012 buried a time capsule in the garden to be opened in 50 years. We all remember those first spring days, when the warm sun is out for the first time in months, and while we should be studying, we make an excuse to sit out on the grass to soak in the rays. This garden will be an oasis for those students wanting to sit back and enjoy the sun, whether they are actually studying for exams or just sitting and chatting with friends.
