Goodwill purchases assets of American Professional Institute Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA (GIMG) is pleased to announce the acquisition effective Friday, Aug. 2, of Macon, Milledgeville and Decatur assets of American Professional Institute (API), GIMG President and CEO James K. Stiff announced Aug. 5, 2013. “Goodwill looks forward to building upon the foundation of a portion of API’s middle-skills academic programs,” Stiff said. “With improved career advisement and experiential learning opportunities, Goodwill hopes to create a high-quality menu of programs that will empower graduates to achieve the American Dream.” The selected campuses – at 3076 Riverside Drive, Ste. 700, and 1667 Eisenhower Parkway in Macon; at 2400 N. Columbia Street in Milledgeville; and 141 Sams Street in Decatur – reopened as scheduled for students on Monday, Aug. 5, under Goodwill’s banner as the School of Health. Other campuses affiliated with API are not part of the Goodwill purchase. Approximately 304 students currently are enrolled in API programs on these campuses, including courses for medical assistant, pharmacy technician, surgery technician, patient care technician, medical insurance billing and coding, massage therapy, personal trainer, nail technician, cosmetology and barbering. Goodwill currently operates two campuses of Helms College in Macon and Augusta, offering accredited certificate, diploma and associate degrees in the field of Culinary Arts using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, highly qualified instructors and hands-on curricula. The acquisition of API’s existing accredited programs will enable Goodwill to expand its post-secondary education roster to include programs in allied health and holistic arts. Open house for October classes in the School of Health will be held in September. Former API President Jamie Garner has been named Vice President of Administrative Affairs with Goodwill/School of Health. Other members of the faculty and staff of the former campuses of API are being offered the opportunity to apply for positions with Goodwill and the School of Health through Goodwill Staffing Services, and receive placement assistance through Goodwill Job Connection centers. ###
