Computer Centers Macon Bibb Parks and Recreation was awarded a $15,000 grant to help improve technology at four of the Counties Community Centers; Bloomfield, Frank Johnson, Freedom Park, and Rosa Jackson. The grant allowed us to purchase 6 computers that are equipped with educational and vocational software, internet, and printing capability. The main goal of this project was to bridge the technology gap in neighborhoods that our community centers serve. Labs are open to the public during business hours and allow community members to use them for educational or vocational purposes. Outside of libraries many residents do not have free computer/internet access if they don't have a personal computer. There are programs, such as CGTC Adult Education which allows residents to complete their GED and vocational certificates for free however many students may have trouble attending on-campus classes. Labs will allow them to complete coursework in the neighborhood they live in community. These labs as also used for the centers after-school programs by allowing the students to use the computers to complete their homework as well as self guided tutoring via educational software which is aligned with the Georgia Common Core Standards. Free wi-fi is also provided, helping to extend the Connect2Compete wi-fi area for households who may have computers but not internet.
