Life cycle

middle – upper primary

The female lays up to several thousand eggs, and then the male fertilises them. Some frogs make a foam nest to protect the eggs.

Frogs live for between one and 23 years.

This stimulating pack allows students to investigate environmental sustainability using geographical inquiry skills.

When a male frog is ready to breed he calls to attract a female. The eggs hatch into tiny tadpoles, which live in the water.

Working through the resources will develop understandings of four key concepts: • conservation • biodiversity • renewable energy • sustainable futures. The resources support student learning in the following curriculum strands: • geography knowledge and understanding • geography inquiry • geography skills.

The adult frogs live on land and use their lungs to breathe. Many frogs are ready to breed when they are one to two years old.

The tadpoles grow legs and arms, and their tail shortens and disappears. As they become adults they develop lungs and their gills disappear.
