Ms. Karyn Estela The Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st/2nd grades are celebrating the arrival of Spring with their public performance in the Mackintosh Gym on Thursday, March 22 at 10:00 am for students and teachers, and Friday, March 23 at 10:00 for our parent community. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten are presenting, “Grandmother Spider Steals the Sun,” a Cherokee myth of North America. Grades 1 and 2 will follow with their presentation of “The Dreamtime,” an aboriginal myth of Australia. Students will narrate the story, play instruments and sing to create ‘Sound Paintings’. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will sing and dance to “I See With My Hands” and “Under the Same Sun.” Grades 1 and 2 will sing and dance to “I am But a Small Voice” and “This Pretty Planet.” Please come and enjoy our Spring performance. Grades 3 and 4 are practicing correct breathing techniques for singing the song “We Go Together” from the Musical “Grease.” Students are learning the style of ‘doo-wop’ singing nonsense words at a very fast tempo. We are having a lot of fun tying up our tongues and singing this cool song. Grades 5 and 6 are creating, writing, and dancing their personal choreographies. They have chosen their own songs and are working in groups of 1-4 students. What a joy to see all these students creating and practicing dance movements, writing glossaries of dance movement abbreviations and writing these abbreviations into 32 measures of music. Students will present their choreographies to their classes. MYP will begin a new 3 week unit of performing arts beginning March 26. Students will choreograph the dance “Don’t Stop Believin’” based upon “Flashmob” style. Students will understand and demonstrate dance skills, apply the principals of choreography, create, communicate, and problem solve through dance, understand and relate the role of dance in culture and history, understand the benefits of dance for lifelong fitness, and understand the relationships and connections between dance and other disciplines. We are going to have super fun time learning and investigating all the facets of choreography. ;-)
