Your support of this event and generous donation will help us send warmth and care to families living with cancer. Hong Kong Cancer Fund is the largest network of cancer care in Hong Kong, providing a range of free professional services to meet the emotional, physical and practical needs of anyone touched by cancer. This year we celebrate our 31st anniversary. To meet the increasing need for dedicated cancer support over the years, we have grown significantly. Recently, we have expanded our services with the opening of new support centres across Hong Kong. We now have five specialised centres available to anyone coping with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. As we receive no government funding or support from the Community Chest, every donation means so much to the Cancer Fund and really helps to make a difference for the families we care for. HA N D BAG S D’AUCHEL is the family name of founder Olivier Dauchez, the descendant of a French noble family that originated in 13th Century (XIII) France. Growing up in his mother’s French castle, the 100-year-old Chateaux de Villechaize in Loire Valley, Olivier played amongst majestic French gilt armours, hand-woven artistic tapestries, and elaborately carved period pieces of wood furniture. As such, he learned to appreciate the fine work and traditional know-how of the master artisan, who spent decades perfecting his craft. This appreciation, passed down for generations and honed by a grandfather who was a master craftsman of silk scarves, led Olivier to develop an exquisite eye for the details of luxury.

Lot 240 Hong Kong Harbour The Hongs of Canton, a China Trade painting circa 1860. This painting has been dated from the historical writing of Patrick Connors. The Hongs of Canton Page 196. Size 75cm x 43cm. EST. HK$330,000 - 350,000

The “County of Ayr” Hong Kong Port Scene, circa 1865 The vessel flying the pennant bearing her name was launched 13 June 1863. Built by Charles Connell on the Clyde to the order of R&J Craig od Scotland, she was the second in their “County” series. In this especially detailed view of Hong Kong Island, the godowns and above them the residence of Jardine Matheson staff is visible at East Point to the far left. Depicted are St. John’s Cathedral (1849) and Flagstaff House (1846) and to the right the Bishop’s House (1848). Beneath Flagstaff House in their original location are Murray Barracks (commenced 1840). Sea going junks and sampans are to be seen in the harbour in addition to the Receiving Ships which provided accommodation and administrative facilities for the Royal Navy. Ships of different nationalities are at anchor, among them vessels flying the flags of USA and Great Britain. The Signaling Station erected on Victoria Peak 1861 is just visible.

A RT Lot 241 Hongs of Canton The Hongs of Canton, a China Trade painting circa 1860. This painting has been dated from the historical writing of Patrick Connors. The Hongs of Canton Page 196. Size 57cm x 41cm. EST. HK$290,000 - 300,000 Dating of View of Canton Patrick Conner’s THE HONGS OF CANTON @ p.196 reads that an announcement of the acquisition of land for the Protestant Church in Canton was made June 1847. The building was completed the following year and consecrated by two chaplains, one naval and the second military, on 12th February 1849. The Church was apparently known as “The British Church” and is not to be confused with the Church now on Shameen Island, Canton. The flags in these pictures vary as they announce not only the nationality of the resident lessee but also the nationality of any Consul in residence who may have been representing a country other than that of the building’s lessee. From left to right the four clearly visible national flags in this picture are: USA, France, UK (very poorly painted!) and Denmark. If you look closely, there is a fifth (small pale red) flag but it is uncertain whether it is a shipping flag on the top of the mast of vessel to the right (likely) or is flying from a flagpole in the grounds of the factories (less likely as one does not see such a flag in other post 1850 paintings in Patrick’s text). If the latter category it could be the flag of one of the countries represented by a Consul but it is very indistinct and more likely identifies the vessel. The “ARROW” (Hong Kong registered) was seized by the Chinese on 8th October 1856. The Arrow War (British terminological preference) or Second Opium War (Chinese preference) followed. The Canton factories were attacked and burned down 14th/15th December 1856. Accordingly this canvas depicts the factories on a date between February 1849 and December 1856.Q

A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has made excellence in the vineyard and wine-making practices the basis of its growth. Château Lafite Rothschild was the start of the DBR (Lafite) Group. It was the first Château acquired by the Rothschild family in 1868 and inspires and guides the winegrowing practices at the various estates: the expertise and the tradition upheld for several generations by the Rothschild family are applied to all of the properties with the objective of producing high quality wines full of finesse and elegance in the “Lafite Spirit”. “The Lafite Spirit” is based on a rich past and a tradition rooted in the Bordeaux soil, on the transmission of the ancestral know-how of men and women and on the excellence and refinement of the wines that they help to produce. “The Lafite Spirit” is also the pioneering spirit which has led the Group to open up to the world, by setting up on new terroirs outside France to produce quality wines there. As from 1972, Baron Eric de Rothschild has given a new impetus to Château Lafite Rothschild, completing this quest for excellence, from the vineyard through to the cellars. He has also broadened the horizon of the estates through new acquisitions in France and abroad.

Lot 252 Chateau L’Evangile Vintage 2006 A dense colour and a nose with notes of raspberry and fresh blackcurrant. Spicy, roasted and truffle aromas follow on the attack. Lot 253 Chateau L’Evangile Vintage 2009 “An astonishing effort from the Rothschild family, the 2009 l’Evangile may be the reference point offering from this estate for decades to come. It exhibits a sumptuous bouquet of caramels, black raspberry liqueur, blackberries, violets, graphite and truffles. The striking aromatics, massive, full-bodied mouthfeel and multilayered palate that resembles a skyscraper in the mouth offer an abject lesson in great winemaking, extraordinary terroir, and the ability to combine power with precision, elegance and freshness. This is unquestionably a huge wine, but it also possesses mindboggling complexity and finesse.” – Robert Parker 100/100. 75cl. 1 wooden case of 6 bottles. EST. HK$18,500 - 22,500
