YOSHUA OKÓN arte e independencia
IMPULSA EL TALENTO Y EL ACCESO AL ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO EN MÉXICO, ABRIENDO EN EL PAÍS ESPACIOS Y GALERÍAS INDEPENDIENTES. Romper los esquemas del arte tradicional no es tarea sencilla, pero para el artista mexicano supone uno de los pilares más grandes de su carrera. Profundamente involucrado en las problemáticas sociales dentro y fuera del país, Yoshua Okón ha dedicado su trayectoria en el mundo de las artes plásticas para moldear y explorar el potencial del arte como un motor de cambio en la sociedad. Sus estudios en Canadá y Estados Unidos, han influenciado su perspectiva como artista, y sus exhibiciones han llegado a importantes espacios como el Museo Júmex, el Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, el Museo de Arte de Lima, el Tate Modern y el Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Sin embargo, es en México donde Okón ha encontrado un
interés que va más allá de sus creaciones personales. Experimentando de primera mano las dificultades que un artista puede encontrar en un mundo del arte marcado por el elitismo y la tradición, el artista mexicano decidió dedicarse a impulsar espacios independientes sin fines de lucro, donde artistas contemporáneos y alternativos pueden exhibir su obra, intercambiar ideas, experiencias y conocimiento. Su trabajo para dar visibilidad a las nuevas generaciones ha dado frutos: en las últimas dos décadas, el arte contemporáneo se ha vuelto una sensación. Los espacios de Okón son ahora famosos, pues tanto La Panadería como SOMA se han añadido a la colección de galerías y museos que hacen de México un lugar lleno de potencial artístico y revolucionario.
