We all know that jet lag can be tiresome, but on a scuba diving vacation it can be downright dangerous. Once your baby is around 2 months of age they begin to have measurable levels of the hormones associated with day and night sleep, but minute amounts, one you may know is melatonin. If you are going on a long-haul flight, it might be an idea to try syncing your body clock to your destined time zone a few days before you travel. Some travelers use sleeping pills, antihistamines and motion sickness pills to induce sleep on planes and at hotels after arrival. If you arrive in the morning stay awake and get some sunlight and be active until it is nighttime at the destination. Starting off a trip exhausted in hopes of sleeping on the plane or as soon as you land rarely work. When you travel through multiple time zones, your body has to grapple with a confusion of its internal clock. This has a direct impact on your daytime alertness and ability to sleep. I often get up at 3AM for a 6AM flight and sometimes have to stay up for 20 hours. Try to fit your daily routine and activities into the new time zone as soon as possible- eat when they eat, sleep, or at least rest, when they sleep.
