Music Awareness 2011 New Second LifeÂŽ Community Platform

Editor's Note Greetings, and welcome to issue 12 of Matters of Music Magazine. In just a few months Second Life速 will be holding its annual birthday celebrations. If you have been in SL a long time, or if you read the articles in issues 8 and 9 on the history of music in SL, you know that live music has been a feature of the grid almost since the beginning. The live music community has grown and changed a lot over the years and, this issue, you can read how it is becoming more organized and more professional. Linden Labs has also taken notice and some of its staff members are working with the music community on changes that will ultimately help promote the existance of live music to the residents of Second Life速. It is all very exciting and should ensure live music in SL will continue to grow and have a very bright future.

Walmer currently is a regular performer at Cascadia and the Loch Ness Inn. He has a couple of gigs a week. Venue owners who book him can use the stage he and his manager, Sundown Finesmith, created. It offers a stunning visual element designed to wow audiences. The Replicators assisted them with their knowledge of scripts, programs, and lasers.

Christopher Walmer

Taking symphonic electronica to new dimensions Walmer will continue to perform his own music. He admitted to numerous projects in the works. For one, he hopes to work on a project called Metameets with Slim Warrior, a UK musician who has performed in SL since 2005 and is the founder of SL Music Community Forum.

"Most of my projects are very instrumental, non-lyrical. I work very conceptually.

"It wasn't until I heard Eva perform that I decided to give it a go myself", he confessed. "April of last year was my first SL gig in a venue called the Mossy Knoll. It was the first venue to take me on. My second performance was at Cascadia, which is still around."

The Annual Music A

"Metameets is a virtual worlds conference that happens every year. It's going to be in Amsterdam in June", he stated."The whole idea is to talk about what you can do in virtual worlds. There are live performances and workshops. Last year it was held in Dublin."

Guitar Zane By Netera Landar “I’m not one to listen to lyrics. Songs have to have a magic to them. I know a good song as soon as I hear it” Guitar Zane

There’s an abandoned Dixie gasoline station on the Mississippi Delta sim. A few steps from the battered railroad tracks stands Guitar Zane. As he crouches down he tells me that the tracks remind him of the “crossroads”. Zane seems at home here among the purple flowers and the Highway 61 Blues marker.

The man behind the white t-shirt, faded jeans, and old suspenders was born in Texas and grew up in Washington, D.C. He moved back to Texas when he was seventeen to play country music in bars and dance halls. He has 20 years performing experience and he’s going to keep on strumming as long as the music flows in him.

In our virtual world, he’s a dynamic singer known for writing powerful original themes with a blues, country, or rock style. He’ll hit you with “Rude Bwoy”, or “You Die”, luring you into his “music”. When it comes to the range he can sing, let’s just say if you aren’t rocking to the rhythm you aren’t alive.

Playing the guitar and singing is natural for Zane. It began with his interest in the Oldies But Goodies cassette tape collections. From there, he developed a more eclectic appreciation for music. “I’m not one to listen to lyrics. Songs have to have a magic to them. I know a good song as soon as I hear

Then he wanted to explore music in another way. That’s part of the crossroads in his life. Zane began

jamming in Internet chat rooms through voice. He preferred to listen. When the other singers/ musicians got tired of performing, that’s when he jumped in.

The Edge. Maia Chrome and I were friends online through PalTalk. They were both jamming along. A lot of people from PalTalk migrated here”, Zane explained.

Back then he was a gamer. As a role player he was a guild leader, one of four hundred members which portrayed warriors in a fantasy game. He was sinking a lot of money into it, but one day he walked away. Second Life® fills that void, but not in an addicting way.

Zane checked out the music scene. His friend led him to a venue, The Edge, told him to get on the stage, and he performed for the thirty people there. His first thought was “damn, this is pretty cool!” In no time at all he was attending live shows and making networking connections. A month later, he was performing four to five shows a week. Currently he performs between 11 p.m. and 1a.m.

“I heard about SL through Lexie Luan. She’s a singer and guitar player and used to own the venue

weekdays. He’s at The Source at 11p.m. Tuesday nights and The Kat Rose Secret Garden on Thursday’s at 11 p.m. SLT weekly through March. He’s at The Breeze Saturday nights at 9 p.m. SLT and at NAG at 1 p.m. SLT on Sundays through March. His manager, Lyric Serendipity, keeps him on the right track.

interactive gestures. No explaining what that’s about and Zane says it’s a true story. “Speed Bump” is about avoiding the drama and taking time to enjoy life and listening to some blues. “My Weakness Is” says, sometimes, when you fall hard for someone, everything that makes them who they are becomes part of who you are too. “You Die” reminds Often his real life cousin, Joe, a us that no matter what we do or minister, plays the drums at his SL don’t do in this life, good or bad, it gigs. I write about life, good

and evil. I write about love and the games we play”, he stated. “I’m blessed in many ways.” When you see him at his next gig, ask him about being an all star pitcher as a kid and a state champ middle weight wrestler. Oh, and he loves computers. Just don’t call him a computer geek.

Guitar just opened his SL home away from home. He calls it “Chill’s Deep South”, and it’s just the kind of place he needs to cast a line and weave together a new song.

LOUIS LANDON’s NEW ALBUM REALITY NOT FANTASY

CA – February 28, 2011 – Louis Landon’s career as a pianist, particularly as a solo pianist, helped define his life’s mission: to create a peaceful world through music. While writing the music for Reality Not Fantasy, his upcoming release, Landon amended his mission statement. His current mission is to create a more loving and peaceful world by writing, recording, and performing music from the heart. The eleven songs on Reality Not Fantasy reflect his heightened emotional state as well as a new state of consciousness. Landon now lives his life moment by moment with an open heart and without fear. Growing up in a creative household helped foster Landon’s musical talent at an early age. An accomplished touring musician, Landon has toured with some of the most recognized names in the

entertainment industry including Mikhail Baryshnikov, John Payne, Rupert Holmes, and John Hall. In 2005, Landon took an original collection of instrumental pieces and released his first solo piano release, Unwind. In a 2006 review of Unwind Keyboard Magazine said, “… Unwind is melodic, optimistic, and peaceful. This solo piano album is indeed meditative and mellow, [and] it sacrifices no musical rigor to achieve those ends. With backgrounds in jazz, Latin music, rock, pop, film composing, and classical piano, Louis brings his breadth and depth of experience to bear here. His playing and compositions are sensitive as they are complex and a diverse range of influences is more than apparent.” Among his other releases is “Her Eyes”, a remake of his original

standout “Behind Her Eyes” on John Payne’s debut LP. This CD rose to No. 3 on the Top 100 New Age charts and was nominated for Best Solo CD of 2006 in the New Age Reporter Lifestyle Awards. It also received a nod for Best Cover Art from New Age Reporter Lifestyle Awards.

Michael McDonald and Ben Folds Five, the album sees Landon’s piano talents in a different light on songs like the title track Reality Not Fantasy.

Reality Not Fantasy is available as both physical CD and download through iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, and Louis Landon’s official website: His new album, Reality Not Fantasy, http://www.louislandon.com/ was produced by Grammy award For more information on winning guitarist Eric Tingstad and Louis Landon, please contact is Louis Landon’s most ambitious Chip Schutzman at Miles recording project to date. The album sees Landon departing from High Productions: chip@ mileshighproductions.com his previous work “into a different pop arena”. Similar in structure and melodies to contemporary artists

Matthew Perreault

Second Life® musician Matthew Perreault (The Matthew Show in RL) has just released a new single, Poison Picking Time, on his own Naïve Music label. “Albums are pretty much toast at this point in music industry history,” he says. “Digital singles allow me to get material out more quickly, and without all the associated fuss of disc production.” In Matthew’s words, the tune is “about the fight or flight moment in a relationship that’s seen some mileage.” The song features

members of The Matthew Show’s RL quintet, including SL favorite Beth Odets (Brown in RL). “We met at the 2009 SL jam in Dallas”, he recalls. “Both of us had somehow been in world for years, and in the same city, without bumping into one another. Now we do shows together in both worlds.” The single is available on iTunes, Amazon, and many other online retailers. www.thematthewshow.com
