URBAN DESIGN Requirement: A new area for Taiyuan city, in direct connection with the city center and Jinyang Lake. This will include residential area, offices and retail. Brief: The base is located within the region of the north part of Jinyang Lake Scenic Zone, which is in the southwest of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, with very pronounced commercial atmosphere and unlimited potential. Jinyang Lake is the largest artificial lake in North China and the scenery there can be comparable with the West Lake in Hangzhou. In the scenic zone, there are Taiyuan Thermal Power Plant, the scenic spots and historical sites of Jin Temple. The environment is exquisite with beautiful scene. The project area is placed along an imaginary axis connecting the lake and the town's cultural center. These are the two main attraction poles, one being the natural environment, whereas the other is the urban center and leisure space. The prerogative of the project is to create an axis to unify these two systems, creating a major public space in between. Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China

This continuously built space, highlights the central green spine, which is the most important part, that hosts also most of the commercial, offices, bars, restaurants and hotels. Designed as a semi-green axis the central part of our planning enters into dialogue with the two main points of interest: the city center and the Jinyang lake, a known turistic area, and puts them in connection.

COMMERCIAL CENTER Requirement: 5 Floors commercial center and a 22 floors office building. While the main volumes of the building were already proposed, I had to find a common language for the both buildinigs and to propose the facades of what it’s going to be a mixed use building. In the same time I had to rethink the whole planning and functions of what it will be a commercial center, with retail shops and a 2 story hipermarket; Brief: Firstly I chose to use the same type of sunshaders that will be the common ground for the all facades. They are versatile and can be used idependently according to everyone’s needs. Secondly I had to take into consideration the client requirements regarding the functionality of the building which will include beside the main shopping area, restaurants, cinemas, KTVs and offices;

RUGAO HOTEL Requirement: The project consisted in developing a detailed urban plan for a spa center , containing a 3 * hotel with 80 rooms and 10 individual villas . Brief: The chosen site has the advantage of being bordered on one side by a river, He Xiao Long (Small Dragon River) which can be transformed into a recreational area; and on the other side of a major avenue, Jiang Qu Lu, which links the site to the city center. Given the two proposed coordinates the hotel will be oriented in such way that most rooms are facing towards the green and recreational area . In the center of site there will be a park with an outdoor swimming pool , which will visually connect the two regions (hotel and bungalows) and creates a common leisure space . Points to note are: the efficient use of land for both the hotel and 10 villas to enjoy ample green spaces, public recreational areas. The architectural image of this project is simple and warm, with extensive use of timber for the interior finishing and as well for the exterior surfaces : sunshaders, pool deck , landscape design.

TAIWAN CITY OFFICES Requirement: The site of aprox. 30000 sqm is located near South PingYang Rd. of Taiyuan City, bordered by FenHe River to the West. The required functions were: commercial and 2-3 office buildings, with a land use ratio of 5,2 and a maximum height of 100 m. Brief: Starting from the analysis of the site and considering the shape and the orientation of the site I proposed a mixed use building , located in close proximity to the Fenhe River, to serve as a gateway to the new city development. The towers consist in a 6 storeys podium, for spacious retail arcades, restaurants and services. The main tower and the landmark of the entire design has 100 m in height and opens itself through a clear cut oriented toward the main intersection. The other 2 office buildiings were chosen to create a gate-like perspective toward the first tower, emphasising the latter.

TAIYUAN DIGITAL CITY Requirement: For a site of 18500 sqm, I had to propose a mixed use building, consisting of an electronic market and a 4* hotel. Brief: Thinking that the basis of every electronic device is the motherboard, I took the main design of the circuits existing on this one and transposed them into the facade design of the entire building. The second most important point of the concept was the fact that I wanted to create a landmark for the community, thus creating controlled perspectives toward the hotel. Its shape is welcoming, catching the eye, while the accesses into the digital plaza are inviting and linked into a circuit. Last but not least, I proposed a green public space, that connects the entrences and creates a pleasant pedestrian area.

SOHO MIXED USE Requirement: The project is located in the eastern region of Taiyuan City, bordered to the north by Haojiagou Street. The site has the advantage to be very easy accessible by the Taihang Road nearby and Yingze Avenue at East. Is located at 1.6 km from the railway station, 10.7 km from the airport, 500 m from the east of Dongshan highway, having a huge potential for future development.The project land area of approx. 46,700 sqm. The requirement was a floor area ratio of 4.0, consisting of commercial center and apartments. Brief: The main lines of composition on which the project is based were given by the need to create a point of attraction for the public, transposed in a commercial square, that goes in the middle of the commercial center, as a green spine. This is not just a commercial area, but a social nucleus, a point for people to meet, especially that the next major function of the project is the residential area.

38

Wujiazuang, China

39

40

Crossroads and their influence over the site

The next important step of the composition was the geometry of the square: this connects the main entrances on the site. This “internal commercial spine” will provide spaces for social interaction, coffee shops, juice shops and bakeries. On the top I’ve added bridges that connect the rooftops of the shopping mall, transformed into parks. Another important feature of this project is the geometry of the apartments buildings: they are displayed in such way, so they will receive the maximum amount of light through the whole day. They are surrounded by wide terraces with 360 degrees views. All in all the design is created around the idea of connection, interaction and the dialogue between the public and private spaces, mixed in a perfect balance.

PREFAB LIVING UNITS Brief Easy to build homes made from shipping containers. It´s an economic , not to say ecological solution that can be used in all sort of situations. It started as a task to create a concept home for refugees. Then was developed in various projects in which I proposed robust and resistant shelters, built from recyclable materials and with the ability of beeing reused, easily transported and stored. They can be installed and moved on different surfaces; They solve the need of space in record time; 19.520 2.400

1900 BEER FACTORY Brief: The intervention was based on the concept of “passepartout”, highlighting the existing building, creating a wall to display and emphasize the old facade similary to a photography, yet trying to create analogy relationships between old and new, aiming to find a way to reinterpret the old building into a harmonious connections. The idea was to introduce a distinctive new architecture, that looks for its grounds in the experience of the existing. Speaking of function, the project was create around the old beer house, converted in a beer museum , wich remains as the central point of the composition and a system of public spaces which can be used by the whole community, both of this elements working together to create a nucleus that will help developing the whole area around. Taking into account the position of the site in the city, the urban functions in direct connection with it and the developement politics I thought that the extension should be a hotel. The intervention was dictaded by the need of configurating the Romana Square and the idea of closing the perspective to the industrial site nearby. The aim of this intervention was to create an important point in the city like “a seed” planted for its future developement as well as regaining an important part of community identity. POWER PLANT RECONVERSION Requirement: A preexisting power plant in an old area of Bucharest, characterized by destructuration, but with high potential in future developement. This project is just a small detailed part of an urban planning project in wich I had to propose new functions for the whole area along with a urban detailed plan. Project brief: I chose to give a mixed function to the existing building: cultural, commercial and services, as it could attract more visitors of all ages; Being in direct connection with Carol’s Park, this area makes a great location for public space. I wanted that the new cultural facility to be not only a pole of attraction, but a symbol: It’s vibrant place that brings alltogether young and old; In this way the building will start live again through the people. Systems: I preferred to keep the existing facade, unaltered.  Inside I proposed a light structure made of steel elements (stairs, joinery, poles, ties) in order to complete the industrial design.

URBAN PLANNING Requirement: A project in wich I had to make a proposition for a new residential area in northern part of Bucharest. This new area would include a politic and administrative center, shopping area, green spaces, new neighbourhoods, hospital, schools, markets and loisir, along with several lines of transport (tram, buses). Two of the most important bulevards were already given. The residential area was divided in different categories of living areas: single family homes, high rise and low rise flats, Brief: An important aspect of the planning was to define the green spaces, offering an imediate effect in the quality of living: These are linked with the natural green space, the forest in the south-east part of the site, from which they start as tentacles until the middle part of the area, through the main roads, and creating from point to point green alveoli.
