Guided Sightseeing tour to Spudland Alpacas/Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum. Hobby farms are becoming a popular lifestyle; once these farms find their niche, the sky is the limit. What could be better than spending your day learning about Alpacas and antique agricultural equipment? Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9:00am and return by 4:00pm. September 7

Guided sightseeing tour to MIZPAH in Grand Isle and the Edmundston Botanical Gardens. What better way to start your day by taking in the beauty of nature? The trip will start with a visit to the Edmundston Botanical Gardens, followed by lunch, included with fee. At 1:00pm we will travel MIZPAH retreat center in Grand Isle, Maine. As an added bonus, this year’s trip will coincide with a celebratorial mass which is offered on the first Friday of every month. September 8

Guided Kayak trip down the Madawaska Stream from Madawaska River Dam to the Grimes Road in Caribou. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness Center at 9:00am and will return by 4:00pm. Transportation, life jackets, kayaks and paddles included. Minimum of six people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $20.00 by 4:00pm August 31, 2012. Please bring bag lunch for bank side eating. Program is restricted to individuals between the ages of 18-55. Rain date September 9, 2012.

September 11

Guided Trip to Grand Falls Gorge/River Boat Lunch on the St. John River. Join us for the day as we travel to Grand Falls, New Brunswick for a guided hike around the falls and learn the history and significance of what Grand Falls meant to early settlers. Following the tour of the gorge, we will board a pontoon boat for a 4 hour cruise of the waters above Grand Falls, while out exploring we will eat lunch aboard the boat and enjoy the beauty of the natural landscape and the wildlife that calls it home. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9am and return by 4:00pm. Minimum of six people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $40.00 by 4:00pm August 24, 2012. Mapleton, Maine. Maple Meadow Farms, Fox Family Potato Chips. Mapleton, Maine is home to lush rolling fields, wood lots and a variety of farmers making their living in non-traditional Aroostook County ways. In lean economic times, it is often the people that take the road less traveled that come out on top. On this day we will visit with two different entrepreneurs that are doing just that! In the morning we will make a visit to Fox Family Potato Chip Company and then go to lunch. In the afternoon we will visit Maple Meadow Farms and learn about their interesting methods of agriculture. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9am and return by 4:00pm. Minimum of six people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $40.00 by 4:00pm. August 24, 2012. Guided 30 mile bike tour along Aroostook County’s historic rail beds. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9am and return by 4:00pm. We will travel via the Aroostook Valley Rail Trail to historic New Sweden, and stop at Thomas Hill Park for a picnic lunch, included. After lunch we return to Caribou via the Bangor and Aroostook Rail Trail. Approximately a 30 mile trip. Limited mountain bikes are availability. Minimum of six people required to preregister with a committed fee of $25.00 by 4:00pm September 7 2012. Program is restricted to individuals between the ages of 18-55. Rain date September 16, 2012. Guided sightseeing trip to beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine. Transportation, two nights lodging in downtown Bar Harbor, Maine at the Villager Motel and continental breakfast included. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 8:00am September 18, 2012 and return by 5:00pm September 20, 2012. Minimum of six people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $200.00 for double occupancy or $400.00 for single occupancy by 4:00pm August 31, 2012. Lunches and dinners will be on your own. Trip will visit places such as Cadillac Mountain, Park loop road, Thunder Hole, Wild Gardens of Acadia, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond House and Wildwood Stables. Trip is reserved for individuals over the age of 55. Guided overnight trip to Baxter State Park. Join us for a one night camping trip to Baxter State Park to hike Mt. Katahdin. Dinner, Breakfast, and trail side lunch provided. Tents will also be provide. All you need is a sleeping bag, hiking clothes and snacks. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 7:00am September 22, 2012 and return at 8:00pm September 23, 2012. Hunter Brothers Farm Market, Potato World Museum, Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company. Not only is agriculture a huge part of Aroostook County, it is equally important to neighboring New Brunswick, Our first stop will be the Potato World Museum, which will include lunch, we will then travel to Hunter Brothers Farm Market in Florencville, New Brunswick. To complete the day we will tour the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9am and return by 5pm. Guided Day Trip to Explore Trains on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. This trip has a scheduled rain date of September 30, 2012. Located in the heart of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway is an outdoor museum commemorating the history of the North Maine Woods. Join us for the day as we travel to the waterway, hike into the trains, and explore the artifacts of the logging era that once occurred around Chamberlain and Eagle Lakes. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 8a.m. and Return by 6pm. Bag lunch required. Guided sightseeing trip to Kings Landing! That’s right, back by popular demand. Take a step back in time and relish at how we have evolved as society. Ever wish you could live a simpler life for a day? Come witness how early settlers where able to get by without the modern conveniences of today’s society. Cap this off with a delicious lunch at the King’s Head Inn and you might possibly have the perfect fall day! Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 8:30a.m.and return by 4:30pm. Upon arrival we will break for a sit down lunch, included with fee. Guided horse drawn wagon ride followed by an afternoon tour at the Presque Isle School Farm. Calling all farm stand lovers! October is the perfect month to visit the Presque isle School Farm. If Mother Nature cooperates we might even get to see the cider press in action. Boasting the largest apple orchard north of Newport, the Presque Isle School Farm is the perfect place to fill up on all your fall time favorites…EVEN apple pies! What could get better than this? How about an afternoon that includes a horse drawn wagon ride? Putnam Farms in Mapleton not only will give you a beautiful ride behind beautiful horses, but they will also hide pumpkins for us to take home. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9:30am and return by 3:30pm. At 11:30am we break for a sit down lunch, included with fee. Guided day trip through beautiful Baxter State Park! What better way to take in the spectacle of fall’s beauty than by taking a day trip to Baxter State Park? Couple the color of the fall foliage with the backdrop of one of the most rugged and picturesque portions of Maine, this could quite simply be the day trip of a lifetime. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 8:00am and return by 5:00pm. At 12:00pm we break for a picnic lunch consisting of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, included with fee. Guided sightseeing trip to remote wilderness sporting camps on Munsungan Lake. Sporting camps are a way of life in the North Maine Woods. For over a century eager sportsman and vacationers have traveled to the North Maine Woods to embrace the wonders of nature. Sporting Camps eventually evolved to provide the conveniences of living at home in a remote location. Travel with us to Northern Piscataquis County for the day to learn about the history of Bradford Camps, from owners Karen and Igor Sikorski, while being treated to a sit down lunch in their wilderness lodge. Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 8:00am and return by 5:00pm. Upon arrival we will break for a sit down lunch, included with fee. Guided sightseeing tour to Shakaree Red Deer Farm/Tour of Smyrna Amish Village. Originating in 1990, Shakaree is one of the largest Red Deer operations in the country. Shakaree has a strong breeding program, a large venison market and their own hunting business. Following the tour of the Red Deer, we will re-kindle our most popular tour‌.A trip to the Amish Village in Smyrna, Maine. Guided Day Hiking Trip to Deboullie. Though much smaller than its sister to the south, AKA Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park, Deboullie Reserve offers every bit as much challenge. With its rugged terrain, numerous ponds, and spectacular views, let us introduce you to what Deboullie Reserve Lands have to offer. Trip will depart from Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 7:00am and return by 5:00pm. Bag lunch required. Acadia Coffee Roasting Company/Orchard Hill Farm. If you are a coffee lover then this is the trip for you. Join us as we travel to Aroostook County’s only coffee roaster in Wallagrass, Maine. Following this visit we will break for lunch, and then travel to Woodland, Maine to learn about Scottish Highland Cattle. Trip will depart from Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9:00am and return by 3:00pm. At 12:00pm we break for a sit down lunch, included with fee. October 25-26

The Penobscot Theatre Company. Located in beautiful downtown Bangor is the Northeastern-most professional theatre company. Join us for an overnight trip to Bangor, Maine. Once there we will take in the sights, shopping and dinner. Following dinner we will head to the Penobscot Theatre Company and enjoy a show (T.B.A.). After the show we will spend the night in Bangor and return to Caribou the following morning. Trip will depart from Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 12:00pm and return by 12:00pm the following day. Minimum of six people required to pre-register with a committed fee T.B.D., which will include show, lodging, and continental breakfast, by 4:00pm October 5, 2012. Maine Swedish Colony Historical Tour. New Sweden, Stockholm, Perham and Woodland are comprised of beautiful, fertile rolling terrain that is rich in agricultural history. This area, known as the Swedish colony, was settled by settlers relocating from Scandinavia, many of these ancestors still call this area home. Travel with us as we explore such areas as Lars Noak Blacksmith Shop, The Larrson/Ostlund two story block house, New Sweden Historical Museum, and Stockholm Historical Museum. At 12:00pm we break for lunch, included with fee. Trip will depart from Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9:00am and return by 4:00pm. November 1

Healthy Food Alternatives. O.K., we all know that we should avoid eating certain foods, right? Some say butter, other say eggs, and we all know that salt is a No, No, right? Here is your chance to hear some healthy alternatives to all of these favorite kitchen table staples. Join us to welcome Chef Joe Gervais to the Caribou Wellness and Recreation center. Chef Joe is the head chef at the Crow’s Nest Restaurant and Event Center in Presque Isle. Joe is a wealth of knowledge on substitutions to less than healthy foods. November 8

Indoor Container Gardening. Just because old man winter is knocking on our door does not mean that we have to pack up our flower pots and planters for the winter. That’s right, join hosts from the University of Maine’s Cooperative Extensive Master Gardener program and learn what fruit and vegetable plants do well in indoor container gardens. Plan to get your hands dirty as all participants will be planting a small planter that contains your favorite summer time veggies to take home. Lunch will be provided; presentation will be from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Minimum of twelve people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $25.00 by 4:00pm October 12, 2012.

November 13

Bird House and Feeder Building Workshop. Enjoy watching your feather friends in your back or front yard? Here is your chance to pamper them with your own creations! Join us to welcome host Mike McCarthy of McCarthy’s wood shop on the New Sweden Road in Woodland. Mike will teach us his tricks to building, then we will put those skills to work. Yes that’s right, it will be your turn to be crafty and create your own bird feeder or bird house. All wood will be precut; all you will have to do is assemble it. Lunch will be provided; presentation will be from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Minimum of twelve people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $20.00 by 4:00pm October 19, 2012.

November 15

Basic Emergency Care. Do you know what to do if someone who is sitting next to you should suddenly collapse? How about simple ways to stop bleeding? Whether you answered yes or no to any of these questions, this presentation is for you. Join us as we welcome Paramedic Tim Guerrette from the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. Tim has 20 years of experience in emergency medicine. Tim will share his knowledge with tips of what you can do while you are waiting for an ambulance to arrive on scene, your actions might just save someone’s life. Lunch will be provided; presentation will be from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Minimum of twelve people required to pre-register with a committed fee of $15.00 by 4:00pm October 19, 2012.

November 20

Common Foods for Common Ailments. Medications are such a huge part of people’s lives today. What did we do before medications became so prevalent? We turned to what we had locally; believe it or not, many of these plants grow right in our backyards. Join us as we host Natalia Bragg from Knot to Bragg Farms. Natalia has had many years of experience in this area and is eager to share them with you. She will help us identify these plants that grown wildly and teach us what we need to do put them to work. Field Trip! Chef Nathan Scott from WAGM’s series titled Open Kitchen. We have all seen his magnificent creations on T.V., right? Ever thought about cooking some of his delicious presentations, but not had the gumption to do so? Well, here is your chance to get a firsthand look into the world of Nathan Scott’s, Open Kitchen. Nathan will share his love of cooking with us and teach us interesting new recipe ideas. If you are tired of cooking the same things all the time, then this is the field trip for you! Trip will depart from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 10:00am and return by 2:00pm a sit down lunch is included with fee. Flower Arraging. O.K., we all love flowers right? Wouldn’t you love to take the beauty of the outdoors and put it on your kitchen table or counter? Of course you would, but why don’t your arrangements look like the ones that come from the flower shop? Join us as we welcome the Corriveau’s from Phil’s Florist and Plant Shop here in Caribou. The Corriveau’s have an unprecedented eye for design and are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to share their talents with you. The Corriveau family has been making beautiful creations for several years and will be our presenter for flower arranging. All participants will be able to take home their own creation in a provided vase. Lunch will be provided; presentation will be from 11:30a.m. – 1:30p.m.. What kind of weather should we expect this winter? Join us as we invite host WAGM TV’s Weatherman, Ted Shapiro to the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Ted will discuss such topics as lightning safety, what the clouds mean in the sky, and most importantly, what will this winter bring us.
