MEET THE HUB BY ESCAPE FITNESS

Let us introduce you to the Octagon Range of Functional Training AKA THE HUB TRAINING SYSTEM (HTS).

This massive, limitless, one-of-a-kind system is located in the downstairs strength training floor of the new Champion Fitness Center.

What is that? How do you use those?

Certified personal trainers and fitness staff on the floor are happy to show you how to use the equipment properly and with correct form. Just ask! Or join a team training class (coming soon!) and see what the HUB is really all about!

BANISHING GYM CLUTTER

INTERACTIVE TRAINING

Cluttered, messy gyms aren't efficient environments. Our members deserve clean, safe workout areas. The HUB includes flexible racks for storing everything from balls to barbells to bags. HUB is organized and tidy when not in use, but easily accessible at the same time to anyone who wants to give it a try.

The Octagon is such an asset to any gym. It enables trainers to work with multi-ability groups on a variety of programs. Imagine team training for up to 24 people at once. Interaction motivates people.

For more information about the HUB and future team training classes, contact Eke Aiono at ext. 270 or eaiono@jccrochester.org.

Genesee Valley Physical Therapy (GVPT) is now at the JCC!

Genesee Valley Physical Therapy is opening its newest of five offices at the JCC! This new practice in rehabilitation and wellness is available to JCC members as well as the general public. In early July GVPT Physical Therapist Lindsay Jackson began taking appointments for aquatic physical therapy and the GVPT on-site clinic opens September 6. Lindsay and fellow Physical Therapist Sarah Lipinski will provide aquatic and land therapy by appointment to patients. Dan Geen, one of the founders of GVPT, will also be providing talks and screenings at the JCC. He explains, “GVPT wants to be part of the community. We want to build relationships rather than having patients get turned off by factory-type PT practices.” Geen pointed out that GVPT has 1400 referring physicians, and they are informed of the new office location at the JCC. He is anticipating a very active practice being located right in an excellent health and fitness facility like the JCC.

S T C A F S H T MY t physical therapy VS

abou

Sarah Lipinski and Lindsay Jackson clear up some of the “myths” that discourage people from visiting a PT. You may be surprised!

MYTH

1. I cannot see a Physical Therapist without a referral.

FACT It may interest you to learn that you can directly access physical therapy without being referred by a primary

care physician or specialist. Insurance companies cover PT without a prescription or referral. Your PT will still communicate the results of your evaluation to your medical provider.

MYTH

2. Physical therapy is only for injuries or accidents.

FACT Post-surgical PT is common, but physical therapists are uniquely qualified to help in preventing many ailments.

Seeking treatment to assess and correct posture, muscle imbalances or minor aches and pains can prevent these from progressing to more painful conditions.

MYTH

3. Physical therapy is painful.

FACT

MYTH

PT does not have to be painful at all! In fact, PT’s use a variety of techniques to alleviate pain and get you back to your daily routine. Being sedentary and immobilizing painful areas can cause reduced range of motion and weakness. These can lead to more pain.

4. Physical therapy is not covered by insurance.

FACT Wrong, but depending on your plan, there is often a deductible or copayment for the patient to pay. GVPT can

help you control costs and hand over your care to JCC Fitness Instructors at some point in your treatment so that you will have fewer actual visits to pay for. They can also instruct you in some in-home exercises to complete.

MYTH

5. I can do it myself...I don't need a physical therapist.

FACT

Having the correct diagnosis and understanding the cause of pain is crucial to designing an effective personal program. Disease diagnosis and management are part of a Physical Therapist’s training, making them the most qualified to safely progress you through movement and exercise without causing further injury.

Lindsay completed her MSPT at Boston University in 2000. She practiced in Boston for 7 years before relocating back to her home town of Rochester and joining GVPT. In 2008 Lindsay started the aquatic physical therapy program at GVPT. She has a special interest in helping patients seek long term solutions to improve their overall health and wellness. In her free time Lindsay stays active with her 9 year old daughter.

Lindsay Jackson

Sarah completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY in 2004. She has been practicing physical therapy for 12 years and has been with Genesee Valley Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation for the past 10 years. She is the women’s health therapist and is also one of GVPT’s orthopedic physical therapists and one of their aquatic physical therapists.

ChurCh & stAte October 22–November 6 After a Republican U.S. Senator from North Carolina makes an off-the-cuff comment to a blogger on the eve of his re-election campaign that calls into question his belief in God, his devoutly Christian wife and liberal Jewish campaign manager try to contain the damage. This look at religion, guns and social media in politics is both brutally honest and shockingly funny. Emmy-Nominated Jason Odell Williams developed Church & State in conjunction with JCC CenterStage and the National New Plays Network for this Rolling World Premiere. $26 MeMbers: $24 sTudenTs: $20

Great Comedy!” ---The new York Times After playing to packed houses in NYC for 2 years, Comedian/Actor Brad Zimmerman brings this hysterical and inspiring story about the 29 years he spent “temporarily” waiting tables in New York, while chasing a career in acting and comedy. Zimmerman’s self-deprecating humor and wicked charm, as he talks about his pursuit, his relationship with his family, a misbegotten love life and some persnickety diners, combine for 90 minutes of pure laughter.

CenterStage 40th Anniversary Launches New Beginning The changes and renovations to the JCC theater entrance are both obvious and dramatic: an updated lobby, new concession area, expanded seating and a beautiful new Lipson Patron Lounge. The changes to the CenterStage Theatre program itself have been more subtle, but no less dramatic. As the reputation for quality theatre at your JCC has grown, audiences have increased by more than 500%. The focus on new works and recent Broadway hits has also been a crucial factor in attracting top talent and transforming CenterStage into a local professional theater. The number of events in the JCC Hart Theater have quadrupled in recent years due to an expanded CenterStage, welcoming TYKEs (Theatre Young Kids Enjoy) as a JCC program, an expanded CSL Music Series, and year-round events from our Jewish Book Festival and Rochester International Jewish Film Festival. CenterStage’s first World Premiere play, Welcome to the Neighborhood, opened the door for early development of works like My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, Naked in Encino, Imagining Madoff, Handle with Care and Oy Vey, It’s the Calamari Sisters. Also attracting attention is our home-grown Hit Factory/American Songbook series.

Jason O’Dell Williams (Handle with Care) on development of a timely new play that is already gaining national attention. Church & State was nurtured right here in Rochester and is now part of the National New Plays Network Rolling World Premiere program with productions at the Skylight Theater of Los Angeles where it received rave reviews, and New Jersey Repertory. Investors are now exploring a commercial run Off Broadway for 2017. Our epic 40th Anniversary Season kicks off on opening night of Church & State with a champagne reception and Meet & Greet with the playwright. Please join us for the entire season and thank you for continuing to spread the word about the amazing theatre offerings at your JCC.
