What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? If I was to choose a big publishing house to publish my magazine then I would most likely choose IPC Media as it mostly publishes magazines for women, so it would be able to adjust to an early teenage audience. They engage with 26m UK adults, almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men, proving that they are the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher and that most of their audience are women. I would probably not choose to use a big company in general for my magazine as a few pop magazines are already out there, and as they are well known names such as 'Word Up' or 'Top of the POPS' they would sell better than a brand new name, reducing my audience. I wouldn’t use a high market publisher such as Condè Nast as they already have 164 million consumers across 20 industries. These produce the leading print and digital brands such as ‘Vogue’ and ‘Glamour’ magazines. The target audience for this company is wealthier women who might be house wives, which is the main reason why I wouldn’t use it as a publisher, as young teenagers don’t appeal to this style of magazine. It will be best to initially publish my magazine independently until it increases in popularity. Making a digital version to start the distribution of the magazine would work the best, as the teenage audience are well acquainted with the programs over the internet, and would probably take more interest in the magazine if they could read it online and on any device so that they can read it anywhere they want to. Selling subscriptions would produce the money for this magazine. This online version would be published through Zinio.com as most of the magazines for sale on there are published by independent companies and are digital versions such as ‘The Fader’. Some are special editions that are only found in online versions such as‘Top of the POPS special – One Direction’. The problem with working independently is the fact that according to statistics 7/10 titles don’t go further than 4 years in the industry. This is why going digital with an online version is the best way to publish my magazine, as there is more of a chance of it lasting more than 4 years, as anyone can view it online at anytime. Publishing online also opens different possibilities for my magazine, as viewers could buy it on different software such as i-Tunes and Spotify if it is in high demand, as these companies would also benefit from the profit. Pop music has such a wide variety that a lot of people listen to it making it a secure magazine to sell on these websites, and as my target audience is young teenagers they are more likely to come across it on these sites as they look for the in-trend music.
