January 2016

NEW this year: you can register BEFORE your Team Captain! Are you ready to start fundraising and knocking out your goal, but your Team Captain hasn’t registered yet? No worries! You can now register before your Team Captain and get the fundraising party started! So how does it work? When you register online at, there will be an option to “search for a team” and you can search the team name you want to join. Once you find the team, select “bring team back.” This will get the team started for others to register and will not make you the Captain. Once you are registered, remind your Team Captain to register as well! As always, if you need any help getting registered, call 1-800-344-4867!

Be sure to log into your Participant Center and customize your site! People who personalize their pages with their story and

pictures, why they walk, and use the online tools for fundraising raise double the money! From the Participant Center, you can edit your Personal Page, email donors, and manage your campaign. It is a great tool for Team Captains because you can follow your team’s progress. Jump start meeting your fundraising goal by making a self donation to show your commitment

to stopping MS! Participants who make a self donation fundraise 2 times as much as those who don’t. Set yourself up for success!

Walk MS is so much fun because you get to team up with friends, loved ones, and co-workers to change the world for everyone affected by MS. Together, we become a powerful force. Together, we will end MS forever! What better way to build connection than to have a team! Team members can be anybody, be sure to ask everyone you know, and they can easily register online at Joining the movement is more fun with others around! Need some help thinking of people to ask to join? Check out this guide! Questions about any of the walks? Email or call 1-800-344-4867.

Sheryl Reitmann Captain for Team Sherwin Williams

Written by Jenifer E. Novak

Sheryl is my sister-in-law, I’ve known her for 17 years. She was diagnosed with MS as she graduated college in her early 20s. I’m so thankful to be able to share her never-ending spirit. Here’s why: • One wheelchair that Sheryl must use every day because of MS. • Two beautiful children Sheryl has who see their mom struggle on a daily basis. • Seventeen years of marriage (and still going) for Sheryl and her husband. Chris FIGHTS by her side without complaint. • A TOP 100 WALK MS TEAM whose members Sheryl inspires each day of every year. • 3,650 days (that’s 10 years) of the team taking STEPS for a CURE with the NE Ohio Walk MS. • 9,125 days (that’s nearly 25 years) of Sheryl’s fight against the TORTURE of MS. • More than $100,000 raised by Team Sherwin Williams over the last 10 years to support efforts to FIND a CURE. • The LIMITLESS INSPIRATION Sheryl gives to her friends and family.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity to reflect and pay tribute to our leader, Sheryl Reitmann.

There are other ways you can be involved!

Volunteers have helped make our events and programs successful year after year! It is volunteers and their dedication to the National MS Society that makes events like Walk MS and Bike MS possible. If you or your group is interested in volunteering at any of our 17 Walk MS events or three Bike MS events, please contact Maureen Mohney at 419-482-1585 or email So what will you do as a volunteer? First off, you will have fun! The rest of the possibilities are endless! You can help with: Participant Check-in, T-Shirt table, Mission table, Food, Set up / Tear Down, Finish Line cheering.
