Because of the changes that have come about in our American way of living, social anxiety has become a huge problem for an increasing number of people who are unable to manage their anxiety within their social environment, and the need for social anxiety treatment is becoming a reality for more and more of our friends and neighbors. Perhaps we should begin with a brief explanation of just what social anxiety is and is not. Anxiety disorder may not appear to be such a life-threatening disorder to some of us - who may even sluff it off as just a matter of being shy. But this anxiety is far more than just ordinary shyness to have to deal with and definitely requires a specific social anxiety treatment. Unlike shyness, it affects the individual's lifestyle much more severely and prevents him/her from having the personality they were meant to have and from being the person they were meant to be. Because of the wide-spread prevalence of this particular disorder and the need for treatment, it behooves us to become better acquainted with some characteristics and effects of this disorder. If we are to speak about social anxiety treatment, we must become familiar with the background and history of the disorder. Most everything about our every day responsibilities involves relating to people in some way or another, whether in the field of employment, family, worship, etc. As some therapists have explained: "Each day we're on display; we're being watched, judged or perhaps misjudged, we're liked or disliked, accepted or rejected." Is it any wonder an individual in the throes of this disorder expects and experiences incapacitating anxiety when thrust into even the least intimidating social situation? When we understand the psychological symptoms of constant and sustained fear and anxiety over inconsequential matters never having peace of mind... we can begin to understand the need for some kind of treatment that will bring that peace-of-mind. Thankfully, there are many therapies, treatments and cures for the various anxiety disorders, such as: medications, anxiety counseling and therapy, stress management interventions, alternative (natural) therapies, acupuncture, etc. Hopefully the following brief survey of treatments will provide options for those looking for such treatment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - (CBT) Very Popular with Social Anxiety Therapists and Effective...The intent of this particular social anxiety treatment is to enable the individual to uncover and pinpoint the limiting patterns of thinking and behavior or beliefs responsible for the anxious behavior. When the individual comes to realize what is causing his anxiety, with the help of anxiety management therapy, he is able to adjust his thinking and behavior patterns to more

productive ones. Follow-through and maintenance are essential to producing successful results from this treatment. While CBT produces great results for this particular malady, it does require an experienced therapist, and that requires careful financial planning. Depending on the length of time it takes for the therapy to be completed, the cost could be around $1,000 or more. The Linden Method - Developed from Personal Experience, The Linden Method is a globally practiced social anxiety treatment which, as Mr. Linden declares, relieves symptoms and can cure social anxiety and other forms of anxiety. Charles Linden personally suffered with social anxiety for years, and as a result of those years of suffering, he was successful in coming up with the Linden Method for treatment and cure. The Linden Method is based on his hypothesis that learned habits can be unlearned, thereby reducing the anxiety level to normal and curing the disorder. He discovered the cause of his anxiety was because "after years of unrelenting anxiety disorder, his brain was psychologically primed to rebuff the pain caused by the unrelenting anxiety". Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) -Neuro-linguistic Programming is a social anxiety treatment based upon finding personal power within and uncovering roots of the anxiety. It involves retraining the brain so that it reacts in a different way to anxiety producing confrontations. Based on the premise that the human brain is capable of learning different patterns of behavior that produce positive results, Neuro-linguistic programming offers techniques to reverse negative responses to anxiety producing situations. As with other social anxiety treatments, NLP is effective, but can be costly, as it also requires an experienced practitioner. Social Anxiety Survivor Course - is a self-help anxiety treatment which can be done with all the comforts of home, and can be practiced at the individual's own comfortable pace with self-help materials. Like most self-help treatments, this social anxiety treatment requires a high level of selfmotivation and perseverance in order to be sustained.
