Justamente ahí, en el Salón Real, tuvimos contacto por primera vez con Santiago del Palacio. Unas semanas antes se había celebrado, allí mismo, una especie de reivindicación o conmemoración de “La Primera Monarquía Parlamentaria” del mundo: Las Cortes de León de 1188. ¿Casualidad? Porque Santiago es leonés. Y, desde muy joven, este leonés se sintió atraído por la peletería. De repente se apagaron las luces y comenzó el desfile, como un torrente. Modelos bordeando ruletas y mesas de juego con una explosión de pieles diferentes, muchas de ellas completamente reinventadas. En ese momento entendimos una de sus frases: “Mi filosofía: que la mujer pueda disfrutar de la piel cada día y en todo momento”. Y así era, y así es, porque después lo hemos comprobado en sus siguientes colecciones. Santiago se fue a los 21 años a Barcelona. A la Escuela de Altos Medios de la Imagen y Diseño (IDEP). Y después, a La Escuela Profesional del Gremio de Peleteros de Cataluña. Y, para finalizar, aunque en la creatividad nunca se termina, viajó a Milán, donde completó sus estudios en el Instituto dell’Abigliamento Marangoni. It was right there in the Salón Real (Royal Meeting Room), where we first made contact with Santiago del Palacio. In the same place, a few weeks earlier, there was a kind of recognition or commemoration of “The First Parliamentary Monarchy” in the world: the Cortes of León from the year 1188. Was this a coincidence? Santiago is from León, and this Leonese felt attracted to the fur trade since a very young age. The lights suddenly switched off and the fashion show started to flow like a stream. Models surrounded roulette and gambling tables with an explosion of different furs, and many of them were completely recreated. In that moment, we understood one of his phrases: “My philosophy: women can enjoy fur every day, and at all times”. And that’s how it was, and that’s how it is because we have seen this in his following collections. Santiago went to Barcelona at the age of 21 where he attended the Escuela de Altos Medios de la Imagen y Diseño (IDEP) (school of image and design). Then, he studied at La Escuela Profesional del Gremio de Peleteros de Cataluña (Professional School for Furriers in Catalonia). And to finalise his studies, although he is always learning in this creative role, he travelled to Milan where he completed his studies at the Istituto Artistico dell’Abbigliamento Marangoni fashion and design school. 40
