TIME Doing architecture, we are anticipating the future, but with our memory. Architecture is a dramatic meeting between past and future, while has to be realized by present means. Thus Architecture belongs to a time, but it can also go beyond its time. Architecture without style, without appearance, without metaphor, will last and present itself in spirit.
The Taiping ship sank, occurred In the late period of the civil war on January 27, 1949, a large number of refugees fled the mainland of China quickly. These people used gold to exchange their seats, or to rely on the relationship, and crowded the Taiping ship which had already been filled.United steam ship company of the Taiping ship because of overloading (2093 tons) and night navigation, from Shanghai to Keelung on the way, in the Zhoushan Islands waters near the Baijie Shan with a tanker carrying 2700 tons of coal and wood "Jianyuan ship" collided ship sank, 932 people were killed. People's Republic of China was established in 1949; Jiang Jieshi and the nationalist army defeated, and eventually led to the modern China largest migration. A large number of government officials, people began their migration from the mainland to Taiwan, before and after the migration of the total number of 1 million 200 thousand.
Around 1949, more than 60 troops were evacuated to Taiwan. At the end of the 80s, most of the veterans in Taiwan went home to visit relatives, but most of them were contacted with their relatives, but some of them failed to return home because of their physical, political prejudices, family barriers and other reasons. A lot of people have buried a foreign land. We design the museum for those separated by the wars and political reasons. We hope that there is a museum to let the dead “cast backward glances” at their former hometowns. We also design for the family of the deceased. When they come to pay homage to their loved ones, they are in the same state of mind, whatever their hometown. It is high time we promoted understanding and communication between them.
GEOGRAPHICAL CONNECTION WITH HISTORY
According to the migration route around 1949, Keelung port is the terminus of most routes. Keelung has many excellent ports, and it is also a tourist attraction for tourists every year.
The chimneys of ships and the Straits of Taiwan are important symbols in the hearts of migrants, as well as the important intention of the museum design of the great migration
Monuments and roads as part of the traffic flow line of architecture, but also as part of the landscape.
SPACE AND TIME Response to the Context
From the historical background, the act and emotion of the migrants have different manifestations.In order to reflect the narrative of architecture, the function of space will combine with the emotion that the migratory people do in a particular period. The mentality so that visitors can feel the space migration: migration, settlement, struggle, homecoming
LIGHT AND TIME We put the museum under the ground with only a parallel channels ,a monument and a square place chexposed under the sky, so that the whole building looks like a deep rift in the earth (to symbolize the hopeless separation).
Day Whenever the sun rises, the shadow of the monument is like an hour hand on the ground, and scar formed a timetable, from sunrise to sunset record this sad story.
Night At night, the spherical device scattered on the ground emits light, like pearls scattered on the beach in the dark, symbolizing the souls of the migrants, and becoming part of the dark night environment landscape.

The Emotion of Migrants
Xijie Street is one of the earliest form of historical and cultural city of Quanzhou, located near the Kaiyuan Temple, still preserved more complete ancient texture pattern, it can be said that the development is a microcosm of the development of Quanzhou city. Looking at the Xijie Street,the first impression is the unification of the city color brought by the big red brick and the traditional houses of Quanzhou.From the texture of streets and alleys, the West Street retains the "fishbone" texture pattern formed after the formation of the Tang Dynasty and after a long historical evolution.
The site and surrounding environment consist of different typologies of form and space,from architecture to infrastructure,from private to public,from human scale to urban scale.
The museum is new reconstructed,but collects the past memory The new museum is chosen to construct only at the sites that are necessary to reconstruct and not under the valid protecttion.It does not disturb the local life and becomes part of the old town.
Transiton from Phase to Phase
The strategy is to embed the Xijie Cultural Exchange Museum in the old town as a starting engine to develop diverse function,urban space and cultural activities. The pure residential houses are becoming more complex,as the local required residential area is decreasing,while the other public and cultural service would be improved or increased to make a balance.
About Construction: Interface,Street The construction strategy is to re-use and renovate the original houses as base structure and then reconstruct a new interface between the new and the old.Also,by doing so,the valuable old houses can be protected to a great extent and be re-developed again if necessary in the next phase.
About Public Function and Space: Because of the crowded space of the old streets and houses,the ground floor of the museum is open to the public,occupied by the louge,shop,cafe.Also,with the corners and lanes raised up,it eliminates the negative oppression.
About Urban Scale and Texture: This simple,elegant form of the museum is contradistinctive with the variable,multiple miscellaneity of the old houses.However,it is not repellent to old houses.They complement with each other and live under the same sky.
Si Shui Gui Tang is plane layout of old house, its architectural style comes from the cultural heritage Chinese harmony of Confucianism, compact layout, atrium covers an area of small, in order to adapt to the local population density is high. The gates of houses open in the central axis, as the main hall behind the head, often in hospital building architecture.

CuO house, is the most representative of traditional architecture in Southern Fujian. In the typical rural life of China's feudal society, it must include three elements: home, education and sacrifice. 100 years ago, Fujian people have in a family system to complete such rigorous refined layout design, combination of living, family education system, the mode of life of three-in-one Jongmyo shrine, with profound wisdom of thinking about how to multiply family, harmonious coexistence. The relationship between the atrium and the layout of the Cuo can be used as the basis of the new form of architecture, or a unique architectural language with traditional features. We continue with this and the original space system to adapt to the new design purposes.
Xiamen Baicheng is located in the Xiamen University in southern Baicheng, is a beautiful beach between the Yanwu bridge and Hulishan fortress. Not only Xiamen University, but also more Xiamen citizens and tourists like to walk, play, swim and watch the sunset. This is a natural leisure park.
Summer SEASONAL USE OF THE SITE
Baicheng beach as a tourist attraction, there are a large number of tourists and citizens to visit in the four seasons. However, due to seasonal changes, the number of people varies due to the different purposes. In warmer climates, fields are often used for swimming and walking. In the cold weather as well as some specific time, according to the habits of sea fish, here are also suitable for fishing. The device we put on the site will meet three functional requirements of tourists and citizens, and the venue activities become more interesting.
