From above, the island is reminiscent of a “green banana” lying on the glistening surface of the Indian Ocean: Dhonakulhi, which has an area of 70 hectares and belongs to the Haa Alif Atoll in the north of the Maldives. The ocean shimmers magically in all shades of blue and turquoise, while the leaves of the palms sway gently in the wind. And in the midst of all this is the Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. Luxury Life MAGAZINE has taken a look at it for you.

Multi-coloured butterflyfish, anemonefish and surgeonfish as well as eagle rays are at home in the reefs just off Dhonakulhi and they lure hobby divers from all over the world to visit their habitat. This native inhabitants of the atoll radiate beauty and grace.

They greet their guests with a joyful dance, dazzling onlookers with all the colours of the South Seas. As soon as I arrive with the seaplane transfer from Malé, I marvel at the giant „fish lamp“ in the Hideaway Beach Resort reception, which hovers above our heads as if symbolising the island. Water is the central element of the resort – this not only applies to the ever-present sparkling of the Indian Ocean but also to the individually designed villa pools and the unfailingly beautiful bathrooms. the half-open bathroom of our beach villa, my gaze wanders to


the infinity pool and then far out to sea, all the way to the



seemingly endless horizon.

As I explore the beauty of the reefs, other guests at the resort


pursue their own passion – fly fishing. „Armed“ with a fishing


rod and bait made up of multi-coloured feathers, they stand up


to their knees in the water and wait for the catch of the day. On


Dhonakulhi, it usually does not take long for a bonefish or a giant trevally to bite – including heavyweights that set the hearts of every angler racing. And a real highlight is the moonlight fishing tour. In accordance with long-standing tradition, the anglers take their boats out to sea while the sun is setting and return later with their catch – mainly snapper, tuna and wahoo. After my dive, during which I encounter several majestic manta rays as well as fascinating giant clams and inquisitive turtles, I

A sunset tour in a Dhoni adds the finishing touches to the day, and the ocean bathes in the last warm rays of the sun as I enjoy champagne and sumptuous canapés. Later, back on dry land, I lose myself in my thoughts once more, accom-panied by a glass of the house cocktail in the popular Sunset Pool Café, before the stars above the Hideaway also retire for the night.

To the well-disposed aficionado, the connection between Winston Churchill and cigars has certainly been obvious for a long time. The British Prime Minister was firstly a gifted cigar-smoker and secondly he gave his name to a cigar format that still exists today. The Cuban brand “Romeo y Julieta” even named one of its cigars after him.

Then, eight years ago, a minor sensation occurred. Churchill’s grandson entered into a business relationship with Davidoff. Since then, there have been cigars with the official blessing of the Churchill family. And although these cigars were rolled by the best “torcedores” at Davidoff, they didn’t sell. The reason? The marketing for these cigars left much to be desired, because the relationship between Winston Churchill and the well-known high quality of Davidoff was, to put it simply, only known really to a small group of cigar-buyers.

Christian Walker is an all-round talent: as an interior & energy designer he understands how to create spaces which harmonise perfectly with our spirit and the forces of nature. Customers from all around the world swear by the sensitive intuition with which Christian Walker transforms living spaces into personal sanctuaries. In his interview with Luxury Life MAGAZINE, he reveals the secrets behind a home which simply makes us happier. What do you think about when you enter someone else’s house for the first time? Christian Walker: “I automatically experience the room with all my senses. Which materials have been used, what are the furnishings like, what does it smell like, what music is playing in the background and how does one feel? Over the years I’ve learnt to understand a wide variety of styles and spheres. This is very important for my work as the goal of every interior & energy design consultation is that the clients feel comfortable in their spaces and the design is perfectly tailored to each individual.”

Intuition is one thing – are there also fixed rules for the ideal interior design? Christian Walker: “People often claim that beauty is a matter of taste. And of course, the surroundings must fit with the people who live within them. But at the same time there are also universally valid principles which apply to an environment optimised in terms

scape under a bright blue sky are also virtually unparalleled in


their beauty. As colours make a strong impact, it’s very important


that they are perfectly tailored to the inhabitants and the living area itself. Again, principles derived from Mother Nature are useful. For the large areas, like the floors and walls, I initially like


to work with neutral colours, such as white, brown and grey –


and with natural materials, such as wood and stone. They give


a space a timeless quality and provide an excellent “backdrop”


for colourful pictures, carpets, curtains, cushions, flowers, crystal,


glassware and vases. Which colours are suitable in each parti-


cular case depends on the people living in the space and the overall picture as a whole. But there are also generally valid rules for this as well. For example, shades of red stimulate a


zest for life and encourage activity, shades of blue promote


intuition and are very calming …”

He has reached his “ideal weight” and, since winning the battle


against his own extra pounds, he has furthered his knowledge

of “healthy eating” and now passes this know-how on, to the benefit of others. After training as a chef in a renowned Swiss clinic – as well as completing further training courses as a

baker, confectioner and dietary cook – Philip Hagenbuch first worked in a food company, where he was responsible for the

purchasing, storage and distribution of meat, fish and vegetables. He also spent several months travelling half way around the world: in the USA, Asia, South America and the Middle

East he observed food production methods and regional eating

habits – always on the lookout for ideal solutions for weight

issues and metabolic disorders. He also developed his language skills during this time and now offers consultation sessions in English, Spanish or his native German language.

His concept is based on healthy eating and losing weight in an

enjoyable way. Philip Hagenbuch’s customers find out how this works at first hand. After an initial consultation session where

also in very good hands with Philip Hagenbuch. Only 10-20


percent of his diet concept is based on physical activity. “80-90


percent of a successful battle against excess pounds is fought


on the eating habits front. These habits are the main cause of


excess weight,” the personable coach tells us. Switching to the


right foods not only causes weight to tumble off but also tones


muscle tissue and strengthens bones and joints. Philip Hagenbuch also advises his discerning clients in connection with the current in-topic of “superfood”. “Antioxidants




(i.e. substances which promise to prevent cellular damage) as food supplements can make sense under certain circumstances. But this has to be decided on a case-by-case basis. On no account should you blindly consume just any product, even if its properties are fundamentally positive. I hear the final call for my flight to Zurich. The outbound flight


was a joy. As I entered Business Class on the Boeing 787, I


was greeted by a glass of champagne – and moist towelettes,


handed to me by my “personal” steward. He introduced himself very politely in line with Arabian practice by briefly kneeling before me – not a sign of a lack of pride but a traditional custom. He handed me the menu which contains an abundant choice of meals, offering everything the heart desires. And the entertainment programme is also impressive. The personal onboard computer features an extensive range of films and games. A large selection of international magazines also helps to pass the time on board, and the journey “flew” by. Totally relaxed, I enjoyed my outbound journey in the extremely comfortable seats of the Dreamliner, whose Business Class makes you feel almost “at home”. My return journey is in another high-comfort aircraft – the Airbus 380. The number four in the name also offers a clue regarding the powerful 4-wheel drive, something never seen before in the history of Ferrari.
