Michael Coppola, President of The Artisan Shop, has shaped that ideal since opening the firm in 2011, drawing on his operations-driven roots to build an award-winning custom cabinetry studio centered on quality, communication, white-glove service and an outstanding product experience that redefines how people live. “When craftsmanship, integrity and beauty are held to the same high standard, the result is work that stands in a category of one,” Coppola says. Q&A ICONIC BY DESIGN What does it mean to be an icon or innovator in your field? For me, it starts with intention. Innovation is not always flashy; often it is found in how clearly we communicate, how consistently we deliver and how fully we align around a shared objective. Being an icon or innovator means creating an experience that feels distinct from start to finish. Where do you look for inspiration? Much of my perspective comes from restaurant and construction management, where preparedness, efficiency and delivery are everything. Those relationships often lead to stronger ideas and better outcomes. What shifts are shaping luxury kitchen design right now? The biggest shift is moving away from style-driven decisions and toward experience-based living. Our clients want spaces that support wellness, feel harmonious and adapt to real life. We are also seeing strong interest in white oak, walnut, thin Shaker profiles, reeded panels, integrated low-voltage lighting and touch-activated doors and drawers. How is the evolving idea of home influencing your approach? Natural light, multi-use living and changing layouts are pushing us to think more creatively about storage, function and flow. My goal is to make cabinetry support the way a space looks and lives.
