Fall Fest: September 22, 2013 Due to “iffy,” weather in recent years, Fall Fest 2013 has been scheduled for an earlier date: September 22. The theme for this year’s festivities is, “O, the Lord is Good to Me.” Worship will begin at 2:30 p.m. with guest speaker Pastor Dale Kern from St. John Lutheran Church

in Stryker. Following the worship service, games and a delicious picnic supper will be offered for all to enjoy. If you plan on attending with your loved one, please RSVP to their cottage supervisor or house manager. Additionally, many volunteers are needed to assist

residents, serve food and help with games. Please contact Megan O’Brien: 419-725-5214 or mobrien@lutherhome.org if you would like to volunteer.

New Home Purchased to expand affordable housing for people with disabilities. LHM now operates 15 homes in the community, all providing beautiful and affordable living for people with disabilities.

Just this past week Tony moved into his new home in Oregon, Ohio. The purchase of the home was made possible by a private donor who contributed the funds necessary for Luther Home

Tony will soon be joined by two roommates who will share the house and receive the services necessary to support their highest level of independence. The ranch-style home features almost 2100 square ft. of living space with three bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 half baths, finished basement and a wonderful porch and deck area. We look forward to watching these young men turn this house into their home and their roommates into their family!

Emmaus Celebrates the USA The clients at LHM’s Emmaus Community Center are spending the month of July learning about the United States of America. To kickoff the month, they have talked about the meaning of Independence Day and

early American History. To help celebrate the 4th of July, the cooking group made traditional American picnic foods: potato salad and red, white and blue fruit kabobs. Throughout the month, they will learn

about the Pledge of Allegiance, American flag and various important events in U.S. history.

What an Awesome Kid! When Sam recently performed at LHM with his school puppet group, he was touched by the heart of our ministry and the spirit of our residents. A sixth grader from Solomon Lutheran School in Woodville, OH, Sam was impressed by how happy the residents are and that they have such big hearts for Jesus. As his final year at Solomon came to an end, Sam wanted to do more to help the residents of Luther Home and found that his sixth grade graduation party was the perfect time. When friends and family were invited to Sam’s party, Sam requested items from LHM’s needs list in lieu of gifts for himself. Sam, along with his generous friends and family, collected over 400 items to donate to Luther Home. What an amazing gift! We are truly thankful for the kind heartedness of Sam and all individuals who have supported our ministry over the last 85 years.

Client Spotlight: Meet Sue Meet Sue: a social and energetic woman with a zest for life! Sue recently retired from Lott Industries where she worked for many years. Now she is very happy to attend LHM’s Genesis Community Center 5 days a week. Sue says that

Genesis is, “one of the best places to work and meet new friends and be happy.” While at Genesis Sue enjoys completing puzzles, shredding paper, attending off campus field trips and swimming with friends in LHM’s therapy

pool. In addition to attending Genesis, Sue is one of the first individuals to receive supported living services from LHM. She enjoys living with her 3 roommates and talks on the phone with her friends every day.

Walk the Mac 2013 This will be the fifth year that Lutheran Men in Mission is asking for walkers and sponsors for the Mackinac Bridge Walk on Labor day, September 2. They will again be supporting Filling Home in Napoleon and Luther

Home of Mercy. The walk takes between two-three hours to complete... beginning at St. Ignace on the north side of the Bridge and ending in Mackinac City...a span of approximately five miles. You can help them to

reach their goal of $10,000 by walking or sponsoring a walker. Please contact Karen Schanke at: 419-725-5188 or email kschank@lutherhome.org for details.

Sue enjoys making craft projects at Genesis.
