ART TOWN FULL OF EXPERIENCES

CELEBRATION OF FINNISH ART This year, Finland celebrates its 100 years of independence. Also in the Art Town, several events will be organized under the ”Finland 100” theme, e.g. the exhibition Golden Age of Serlachius Museums and the folk opera Kitusuon Sofia. And there will be also other interesting things to see and experience. Serlachius Museums, which have become the top attraction for culture lovers, offer artistic pleasures and experiences to the friends of architecture and good food. This year, there will be more than ten new exhibitions in Serlachius Museum Gösta. The classical works of the renewed exhibitions of the manor are accompanied by an interesting contemporary art e.g. in the exhibitions of Marita Liulia, Riiko Sakkinen and Jiri Geller. Serlachius Museum Gustaf displays the interesting history of an industrial community, and art which has many linkages to the industrial tradition of Mänttä. Mänttä Art Festival is organized for the 22nd time, and it’s again the summer’s most significant showcase for contemporary art in Finland. This year, the curator of the Art Festival is Pirjetta Brander, who is building the exhibition trough strong contrasts. She promises an exhibition, which is both serious and hysterically funny at the same time. Mänttä Music Festival brings the top pianists to the August of the Art Town for the 19th time. We can expect celebration of piano music with international stars, Finnish top pianists and young talents. The concerts of the Mänttä Organ Week complete the events of the Art Town. The Art Centre Honkahovi and Mäntän Klubi provide additionally several fascinating art exhibitions and concerts around the year. The most tasty and interesting food event, Food & Art, is organized for the fourth time at art museum Gösta. This year, event’s theme is the image of 100-year-old Finland by chefs of museum restaurants. The event brings together top chefs and unforgettable art and taste pleasures. Our fascinating attractions, shopping destinations, unique hotels, and summer celebrations are waiting for your visit. Every year, the exhibitions of the museums together with other cultural offerings attract 100 000 visitors to the Art Town. See you there!

Gold, which is common to all the works, is seen in many forms and meanings. The exhibition is one of the events to celebrate Finland’s 100-year anniversary. With the term Golden Age Liulia refers to the period of the Golden Age of Finnish art in the turn of the 19th and 20th century, when artists created a Finnish identity for the country. Alongside her own works, she has selected some master works of the Finnish art history. In Liulia’s opinion, Finland’s second Golden Age is the period starting in the 1970s, when a small country rose quickly to become one of the world’s most advanced and affluent nations.
