32 / Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club
Royal Mid-Surrey is a proud supporter of the knockout events organised by the Surrey Golf Union such as the Surrey Scratch Inter Club Knockout and the Surrey Fives. We enter two teams in the West section of the Surrey Fives, which begins in April and runs through to September. It has an interesting format: A team must consist of two players with handicaps of between 5 and 12 inclusive and three players with handicaps of between 13 and 18 inclusive. The event is played over 18 holes of matchplay with the winning team progressing to the next round, culminating in the winners of the West section playing the winners of the East section in the overall final.
The ladies are supporters of many of the premier county events run by the Surrey Ladies County Golf Association. These include the Hicks Trophy and the Derry Cup, a scratch knockout competition between representative teams of three players with home and away matches in each round. The Druce Trophy, a one-day foursomes medal handicap eclectic, has a particular significance for our members as Mary Druce, after whom the trophy was named, was a popular member of Royal Mid-Surrey who worked tirelessly on behalf of Ladies’ golf in the county.
