2 Sleep Center

I focused on the terrors caused by the inability to fall asleep, or the inability to wake up again. This led me to develop a sleep center based around healing and recovery. The building ‘sinks’ the visitor under water, for solitude and peace. It is penetrated by fingers that reach for the sun; crystals set into a solid that receives the light.

O2 Sleep immerses its occupants in slight changes in atmosphere: layers of scents, changes in light, temperature, humidity and sound reflection. The building inhales and exhales, plants act as its metabolic system, and its skin is semi-porous, just like ours. Water circulates throughout its veins, just as blood does ours. O2 Sleep feeds off the energy of the sun, and our human activities in a symbiotic system. It digests our exhalation, and feeds us an abundance healing Oxygen. CHICAGO, USA

An invasive species research center, FeedXFeed scientists focus on the research of the spiny water flea. Although this zooplankton is seen as competitive to the existing daphnia population, it is debatable whether it is truly a pest. Still edible to larger fish, the Spiny Water Flea like to CLUSTER, its hard shells protecting the delicate eggs on the inside.

The research center uses this concept of the circle of life: The water fleas are bred not only to be observed separately but its whole lifetime monitored within the complex. This allows urban farming to occur with the use of HYDROPONICS: The spiny water flea feed the fish, whose ammonia feed the plants. This in turn, feeds us.

Theoretical design project for a library. The sinuous and writhing movement of an animal contained within a nondescript box. Knowlege and power, secret and in the city. The creature begins and ends in violence, its midsection bulges with slow secrets and surprises, trapped under the massive weight of water; struggling to free its coils from its rectilinear cage and embroil and engulf the surrounding urbanity.

A monolithic box holds all our materials for a successful dinner party. As the evening goes on, the secrets of the box are revealed a little at a time, the final structure framing a perfect view of the Humber River. The table is four large sections, each section a “bento box with food already hidden inside.
