LAMAR JOBS Student Employment Program
Nominate your student today!! “Lamar Jobs, Student Employee of the Year” The Career and Testing Center would like to announce the first annual “Lamar Jobs, Student Employee of the Year.” As a supervisor, you are encouraged to nominate one outstanding student within your department or area. Eligibility: i Students must be employed for at least one (1) semester i Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher i Employee must NOT be a graduate student employed as Resident Assistant, Graduate Assistant or Teaching Assistant Nominations: i Write a letter of nomination (no more than a page) Please include name, department and length of employment. Please describe quality of work, professionalism, interpersonal relationship , as well as, his/her “outstanding achievements” and unique contributions to the department.
Acknowledgement: Student will receive a $100 gift card to the Lamar University Bookstore, a certificate and write-ups in the University Press and the May edition of the Lamar Jobs Newsletter. The Department and supervisor will receive acknowledgement for promoting student development. Student Employment week April 13-17 National Student Employment week is held the second week of April within each year. Activities can be held during those days to show your appreciation to student employees. The Career and Testing Center highly encourages these efforts to establish i Sponsor a competition to design banners, posters, or a logo for your department i Decorate office doors or bulletin boards with posters expressing appreciation to your student workers and listing of names
positive reinforcement and productivity within each department. Here are some suggestions to make the week fun and highlight students for their hard work and dedication.
i Post baby pictures of student workers with caption, “Who is this?” i Throw a pizza, ice cream or cookie party i “Pat on the back” awards
i Provide certificates for each student and their work i Give a “finals” basket that includes: scantrons, pencils, candy, popcorn– anything related to preparing for finals
