2012-2013 Assessment Plan Department: Disability Services New Student Orientation Divisional Mission To recruit, admit, engage, retain, and graduate a diverse student population for success at LSU and beyond. We enhance learning by fostering critical thinking and ethical responsibility to create a university experience that transforms lives. Departmental Mission Disability Services assists students with disabilities by providing accommodations and supportive services to increase self-efficacy and overall achievement essential at LSU and beyond. Program/Service Area Description (OPTIONAL) Disability Services New Student Orientation serves incoming students with disabilities who choose to attend the two hour event the Friday before schools starts in the Fall 2012 semester (both incoming freshmen and transfer students are invited.) Student Success Outcome(s)/Strategic Plan Goal(s) SSO: Persistence & Academic Achievement Strategic Goal: Increase the retention, GPA, and accommodations usage of incoming students with disabilities. Project Specifics Project Title: Disability Services New Student Orientation Purpose of the project: Provide students and parents with departmental and university procedural and resource information which can increase the retention, GPA, and accommodations usage of incoming students with disabilities. Assessment method: Compare retention, GPA, and accommodation usage of incoming students with disabilities who attended the orientation with incoming students with disabilities who did not attend the orientation. Departmental Mission Disability Services assists students with disabilities by providing accommodations and supportive services to increase self-efficacy and overall achievement essential at LSU and beyond. Program/Service Area Description (OPTIONAL) Captioning is an accommodation approved for some students who are hard of hearing. However, some students approved with the accommodation do not use the captioning. Student Success Outcome(s)/Strategic Plan Goal(s) SSO: Persistence & Academic Achievement Strategic Goal: Increase the retention, GPA, and accommodations usage of students with disabilities. Project Specifics Project Title: Captioning Effectiveness Purpose of the project: Assess the effectiveness of captioning for in regard to retention and GPA students who are hard of hearing. Assessment method: Compare retention rates and GPA of students who are hard of hearing that are approved for captioning and using the accommodation with student who and approved for the accommodation and do not use the accommodation.
