A warm Louisiana welcome will bring you in, and a buzzing creative energy will make you stay. Here, inspiration is around every corner—literally. Take a walk down our hallways and you’ll see student work proudly displayed, or drop into our studios to see brand new projects come to life. Watch us grow in our passions through workshops and discussions, and find our purpose through clientdriven work and service projects. Our nationally accredited programs are rigorous because in order to solve contemporary global issues, we have to challenge ourselves to push the bounds of our creativity. Theory and practice converge as we educate creative thinkers who, through their professional work, contribute to making a better future. Success in tomorrow’s complex reality requires technical and intellectual skills. Optimism in tomorrow’s complex reality requires an appreciation of the world and respect for those who live in it. We are developing professional artists and designers who are both successful and optimistic, who are thriving and creating opportunities for others to thrive, too. Join us as we continue to produce, innovate, and preserve culture and the arts—critical marks of our humanity that improve quality of life and the shared understanding of who we are as a people. We will stay ahead of the trends, build new opportunities that will boost the economy of Louisiana, and explore our connections to the environment to create something bigger than ourselves, for the health and well-being of our neighbors and those around the globe. Together we will provide society with visions that illuminate the past and inspire our future, incite imagination and stir revelations, start conversations and inspire forward movement.

CREATIVITY WITHOUT LIMITS. ETHOS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES. our gifts toward our new initiatives will push our limits to generate and instill professional knowledge in the fields of art, architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture. Through transformative research and creative activities that address contemporary and enduring issues, and by establishing and maintaining local, national, and global relationships, we will evolve within the ever-changing marketplace of art and design practice. How do we understand where we’re going until we understand where we’ve come from? Just as humans learn the history of their respective culture, so too must they understand their roots in the natural world. The Alumni and Faculty Archive, developed with the LSU Museum of Art, will house the history of the College of Art & Design’s students and faculty, and will make their work and research available to current and future students, alumni, faculty, and the general public. An overarching focus on the impact of the arts and environment on education, economic development, and individual growth will promote opportunities for crossdisciplinary research and publications.

octoral student Petrouchka MoÏse is studying the role of artists in Haitian society, culture, and identity. An artist of Haitian descent herself, MoÏse’s thesis project studies the identity of the Haitian artist, exploring how culture affects the way artists are perceived. She was inspired to pursue the project after witnessing how Haitian communities use visual arts to process and remember the impacts of disaster. MoÏse’s passion for preserving her cultural heritage led to the creation of the LAKAY Project, a digital archive of artistic contributions made by people of Haitian descent.

rchitecture student Naomi Mareschal is the recipient of the Thomas Byron Smith Memorial Scholarship. Mareschal became interested in architecture after her family’s New Orleans home flooded from Hurricane Katrina. Living in a FEMA trailer in her front yard for two years, she watched her home be rebuilt from the ground up and became captivated with building design. Through the support of her scholarship, Naomi has been able to travel on class trips throughout the U.S., intern at Brown University, and study abroad in Paris. “There is something so awe-inspiring about being able to finally visit and experience the buildings and structures you have been studying in class,” she shared.
