Why Choose the Master of Science in Finance at LSU? SMART Lab

New York City Trip

The E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Securities Markets Analysis Research & Trading Lab, or SMART Lab, recreates a simulated interactive trading floor where students gain experience in the fast-paced world of securities analysis, research, and trading. Along with its 44 networked workstations, the SMART Lab features two Bloomberg terminals and offers students the opportunity to obtain Bloomberg online training. Bloomberg is a comprehensive interactive system that provides financial information about publicly traded companies worldwide, extensive data and analytics for equities, fixed income and derivatives as well as news and economic data.

The LSU Student Finance Association (SFA) makes an annual trip to New York City to discover the value of their LSU education and how it can be transformed into a career.

In 2009, the E. J. Ourso College of Business was named a CFA Program Partner by the CFA Institute, a global association for investment professionals that awards the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Employers of our Recent Graduates

Students who attend the trip are able to experience the vast opportunities the “Big Apple” has to offer by being exposed to the financial district and the surrounding business districts throughout Manhattan. Trip-goers have the chance to meet with representatives from several financial firms, ranging from investment banking, consultation, and asset management. They also have the opportunity to tour Bloomberg’s headquarters and the New York Stock Exchange.

Recognition as a CFA Program Partner provides a signal to potential students, current students, and the marketplace that the E. J. Ourso College’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well suited to prepare students to sit for CFA exams.
