JOURNEY SO FAR…

LSSEA ‘14 It was in the year 2005 that the concept of Lean and Six Sigma Excellence Awards (LSSEA) was envisioned by SCMHRD. The purpose was to recognise and appreciate the efforts of Corporate in implementing Six Sigma techniques to improve quality in the fields of service and manufacturing. From a humble beginning, with 37 companies in the first year, the year 2008 saw the globalization of the event with international participation from Iran and Sri Lanka. In the year 2011, the event had more than 80 participating organizations showing their acumen and efforts in achieving Value and Excellence through Six Sigma. It also marked the beginning of the concept of regional rounds to cater to increasing participation. Keeping with its tradition of recognizing the best organizations in operational efficiency, SCMHRD is proud to present

PROJECT CATEGORIES LSSEA ‘14 Lean & Six Sigma Excellence Awards 2014 recognizes projects in the following categories:      

DMAIC – Manufacturing DMAIC –Services and support DFSS – Manufacturing, Services and support Lean Supply Chain Logistics

2. DFSS – Design for Six Sigma It is an act of designing a product, process or service resulting in a Six Sigma output that satisfies both the external customers and internal business Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements. The steps are:

METHODOLOGY DEFINITIONS 1. DMAIC It is the basic methodology to improve an existing process. The steps followed are: Define: What is the problem Measure: Key critical process critical to quality Analyse: Why defects occur? Improve: The process to stay within tolerance Control: The process to stay within goals

Define: The product, process or service and where it would fail to meet customer needs Measure: Determine if the product, process, service meets customer needs Analyse: The options to meet

CATEGORIES BASED ON PROCESSES INVOLVED

LSSEA ‘14 Manufacturing This category involves projects related to manufacturing & operations. Typical examples would include reduction in product/ batch reductions, yield improvement of equipment, etc.

Services This process involves projects related to sectors like banking, consultancy, telecommunication, healthcare, insurance, etc. Typical examples include improving payment processing cycles in banks, reducing call handling time in telecom process, etc.

Supply Chain This process involves projects related to supply chain excellence in various sectors. Entries must focus of specific challenges faced by the organizations, innovations and improvements in the supply chain processes in order to surmount these challenges and achievements as a result of these innovations. A typical example is improvement in customer service levels due to supply chain innovations. Support This process involves projects related to functions which provide support to main business processes. Typical examples are reduction in attrition levels by HR departments of manufacturing companies, improvement in transaction cycles by IT departments of Pharmaceutical companies etc. The above mentioned types are an indication for participants to help them decide the right type of entry for their projects. Logistics This process involves projects related to excellence in logistics and transportation. Typical examples include innovations in transportation planning or route planning, reduction in transportation costs, etc.


GENERAL GUIDELINES LSSEA ‘14 Eligibility Criteria a) The project must have been executed during the period of Jan 2013 – July 2014, with the improved results being sustained for at least three months prior to submission. This is a significant criterion for selection of entries. b) If any project is found to be submitted in previous years, the team will be disqualified in all the categories it is participating. c) There can be only one project per category per team.

Presentation guidelines a) Presentation should not exceed 15 mins (additional 5 mins for questions). Any presentation more than 25 slides shall attract negative marking. b) Considering the valuable time of all participants, there will be a strict adherence to time limits. Only highly relevant animations would be allowed. Video content in the slide can be of maximum 1 minute time length. c) Introduction of the company should be restricted to 1 slide only and presentations must be converted to PDF format and uploaded on website www.sixsigma.scmhrd.edu

Application guidelines Along with the online registration, participants need to upload the scanned copy of the application form duly filled and signed by the signatory (uploading of the scanned copy is a MUST for completing registration) in PDF format on the website www.sixsigma.scmhrd.edu Copyright © All Rights Reserved


GUIDELINES FOR THE PARTICIPANTS

LSSEA ‘14 a) Not more than one project can be submitted under each category. A team can participate in any number of categories (with different projects). Any number of teams can participate from the organization. b) The team has to decide in which region it wants to present during the regional round. Any project submitted in more than one region will be disqualified (even with different team members) c) One team can send more than one project for the event but in different categories. d) For Supply Chain and Logistics, there may be a final round directly based on the shortlist. e) Separate online registrations need to be done for different projects under different names. f) All submissions should be done online. g) Last date for submission of entries is 25th July 2014. Late entries will NOT be entertained h) The panellists at their discretion may ask for a telephonic interview with the participating members, Six Sigma champion and / or the CEO/CFO. This is to verify the validity of the submissions. i) Teams will be shortlisted after the regional rounds and the decision of the organizers will be binding under all circumstances. j) The entry fees for the projects is: Rs. 3000/- per project (under all categories) k) Cheque / Demand Draft. Please make the cheque / draft of the applicable amount (Rs. 3000 per project) in favour of 'Director, Symbiosis Centre for Mgmt & HRD' payable at Pune and send it to our address. Please mention your company name and project name/s behind the Cheque / Draft.


DATES & TIMELINES OF EVENT LSSEA ‘14 Other Guidelines a) We would like to publish the executive summary in the event magazine. In case a company does not wish to publish their project, the team members should communicate it beforehand. No communication from the company will be considered as a “No Objection” from the company and/ or team members for publishing the executive summary. The Executive summary should not exceed 2 pages. b) Along with the presentation, the teams are expected to submit a detailed write-up not exceeding 15 pages. c) Only .PDF format of the write-up and .DOC format of the Executive summary should be uploaded on website www.sixsigma.scmhrd.edu. (Please DO NOT attach .docx format)
