ABOUT I’m Siow Ling Lee. Also known as Sling to most. I’m studying in the University of Melbourne, currently enrolled into the Bachelor of Environments. Currently starting 3rd year of Architecture. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I first came to Melbourne after highschool to study at Trinity College where I did my foundation studies. My first exposure towards digital design was during my very first semester in uni through Virtual Environments where I learned that there are almost no limits to where my creativity could take me!
LITERALLY A HOUSE SHAPED AS A FIGURE 8. THIS IS A BUILDING SITUATED IN COPENHAGEN TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE TOWN. IT IS A MIXED USE BUILDING OF BOTH COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL. INSTEAD OF DIVINDING THESE SPACES BY THE TWO HEXAGONAL SPACES, IT IS SEPARATED HORIZONTALLY BY LEVELS. THE BOTTOM PART OF THE BUILDING ARE ALLOCATED FOR COMMERCIAL TRADES WHILE THE UPPER SECTIONS ARE APARTMENTS. THIS ARRANGEMENT ALSO CATERS FOR THE RESIDENTS RECEIVING SUFFICIENT SUNLIGHT WHILE THE COMMERCIAL WORKERS/CLIENTS HAVE EASY ACCESS TOWARDS THE STREET. THIS IN RETURN ADDRESSES THE NEED FOR PRIVACY AND PUBLICITY. THIS PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF “FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION” AS IT RESPONDS TO THE USAGE OF THE BUILDING RATHER THAN HAVING A BUILDING THAT ALLOCATES SPACES FOR UTILITIES. THIS INTRIGUES ME AS I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN THIS PRACTICE. THIS BUILDINGS ALSO RESPONDS TO ‘GREEN ARCHITECTURE’ WHERE I AM INTERESTED IN PURSUING IN THIS COURSE AS IT INCORPORATES A GREEN ROOF AND A SUSTANCIALLY LARGE COURTYARD FOR THE USERS. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO FOLLOW WITH THESE PRACTICAL AND “GREEN” CONCEPTS.
