PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Welcome to the 2021/2022 Polo Season. We should all be proud of how we have come through the last 2 years living and playing polo with Covid challenging us all. This season is looking great with less challenges and getting our A grade back playing at 8 goals. The season gets underway at Kojonup late October and continues through until late December when we will have a short break with polo returning in January. The main season will start with the Ladies Tournament at the end of January, running through until mid April with the Charles Cup bringing the season to a close. It is great to see the enthusiastic response to junior polo and all the support members are giving to help improve polo at all levels. WAPA is hoping to build on last year’s work and commence arena polo. Perth Polo Club is moving forward with the development of the clubrooms at Kings Meadow and we are looking forward to progressing in the near future. WAPA is working with the APF to improve the focus on umpiring both in WA and nationally . The WAPA is working on multiple fronts looking for funding, growth and development opportunities so that polo can grow in Western Australia. Lets have a great season and have fun whilst respecting our umpires and other players. GREG JOHNSON President WA Polo Association

KOJONUP POLO & POLOCROSSE CLUB Kojonup Polo and Polocrosse club was formed in 1949 by Bob Russell. Tournaments were played at Farrar Siding until 1969 when the club relocated to a block of land owned by Mr and Mrs Stan Haggerty, who named the grounds 'Wandecla' after the property in Queensland where Stan commenced his army training. A busy bee was held, the grounds levelled, sheds erected and the race track, polo and polocrosse fields created. The first polocrosse carnival was played in 1970 and polo soon followed. Today Wandecla is home to polo, polocrosse, Kojonup Race Club and the Kojonup branch of the Pony Club, whilst the Brook Hunt and Mobrup Riding School are hosted as welcome visitors each year. The Grounds have also been a popular venue of choice for members' private parties and gatherings too numerous to mention, which have included several weddings, christenings and wakes. Many amateur and professional polo players have honed their skills at Wandecla, with Stan Haggerty, Geoff Fisher and former Australian Captain and 6-Goal professional Derek Reid to name a few. The club boasts excellent facilities able to accommodate many teams and their horses, including an abundance of safe individual yards, a large shaded lawn area, outside bar and verandas, showers, toilets and a renowned club house kitchen operated by the family friendly and extremely sociable club members.

PERTH POLO CLUB

Perth Polo Club is one of Western Australia's oldest sporting organisations, established in 1896. The club has secured long term tenure at it's home of Kings Meadow in Guildford and has recently revitalised the ground and has extended and greatly improved the playing fields. With the appointment of a Club Professional (providing coaching and clinics) and the hosting of more events, including no-equine activities such as regular Sunday markets in a country atmosphere, the Club is working hard to actively grow polo in WA. Spectators are encouraged to roll out the pinic rug and soak up the atmosphere amongst the grandeur of the flooded gums and the Helena River while taking in the king of games and game of kings at the only public home of polo - Kings Meadow. SERPENTINE POLO CLUB Serpentine Polo Club was established in 1939 by Cliff Tidy and Jim Henderson. In 1964 a ground was established on the Elliott property 'Cloverdowns'. The current field was established in 1982 by Keith Kiely on his property and known as Keysbrook Polo Club, reverting back to the name Serpentine recently. Keith was a passionate player and great promoter of the game. Once the field was completed Keith went to a mining auction to look for a portable toilet block seemingly none were available and he brought back (on several semi-trailers) a large club house, which stands today. The club has an irrigated polo field and stick and ball area, pony tie up rails and wash bays, a large club house with canteen and bar, toilets and showers and a fenced off shaded spectator area. The members practice on a Wednesday evening and regular tournaments are held. Serpentine Tournaments: Serpentine Ladies Tournament - Always hotly contested and great fun. Kindly sponsored by Tanglefoot Winery. The Serpentine Classic - A highlight of the season with prizes for players, horses and grooms. Kindly supported by Australian Premium Feeds and Elanco. Junior Polo Clinic - Serpentine is also proud to host the Serpentine Junior Clinic which sees young faces having their first go at polo with many committed volunteers giving their time and expertise.

WALKAWAY POLO CLUB INC. Walkaway Polo Club with registered blue and white colours was founded in 1965 by Leonard and Evan Hamersly. The original team being Rodney Ludgate, Laurie Bain, Leonard and Evan Hamersly. The club house was orginally situated at 'Well Station' very close to the Walkaway township. Twice the Walkaway Polo Club with five teams nominated in all grades won every cup on the WAPA calendar, including Champion Pony and the Campbell Memorial Trophy. On both occasions the Greenough Shire recognized this remarkable accomplishment with a civic reception. No other West Australian Club has done this before or since. Time has altered many things, including the structure of polo and in more recent years with the majority of players now near the metro and southern areas. Walkaway Club hold their tournaments in the Perth area. The club usually offers some five of their numerous cups, some dating back to the early 1920's.

MOONDYNE POLO CLUB INC. The Moondyne Polo Club was formed in July 1996 to foster and promote the sport of polo and facilitate the involvement and participation of members in the sport. The polo field was put in by the club's members with a lot of hard work and a fair bit of dynamite to make an area flat enough amougst the hills. This field is considered one of the best in WA. The Club was developed by a family that orginally played polocrosse, then became interested in polo, started to play a bit of polo, became hooked and then formed their own club. The club is now made up of several families consisting of mums, dads, kids and grandkids of which all play.
